Object: Indian farmers saved the world from glaciation
New Scientist . 8000 years ago Indian farmers cut down the
forests in the Ganges valley and this released a lot of carbon dioxide
into the atmosphere which prevented the onset of another ice age and
New York being under a mile of ice (New Scientist Dec 03) . China has
only 13% arable land so its farmers contributed a lot less.
In the 1600s plague killed a large part of the population and
the forests grew back and took up a lot of co2 from the air and there
followed a mini ice spell .
Luckily the populations grew again and the co2 started rising.

The article says that co2 levels were falling and another ice
age was on the way (according to core samples dug up now )

Of course we must stop it before it rises too much by seeding the
oceans with iron.

Habshit, this is wonderful, scientific news of very great value.....
to the environmentalists. Please post this again in sci.environment.
I am sure they will be delighted and work hard to promulgate
new permit-charges and more other user-fees over this POTENTIAL.

Thanks for posting this. I was well aware of India's deforestation
and fault for global warming, but hadn't been aware it began so long
ago.
My assumption had been that major environmental damage started when
the British showed up, because they brought technology to wreck the
forests (before the Brits arrived, Hindus used elephants to remove the
trees). I knew that ancient Hindus caused extinction and endangerment
of rare species, for example the Hindu kings decreed that Bengal
tigers were "evil gods" and that they should all be hunted down and
slaughtered.

into the atmosphere which prevented the onset of another ice age and

Actually, global warming can CAUSE an ice age. The reason: melting
polar ice enters ocean currents. Some ocean currents carry warm water
to northern latitudes. Northern Europe would be a lot warmer were it
not for the large ocean current carrying warm water from the
southwest. With the 32 degree melted polar ice flooding the ocean
currents, the water hitting the U.K. and Northern Europe is getting
colder, resulting in another "little ice age". The Thames will freeze
solid again. I wouldn't be surprised if the last "little ice age" was
CAUSED by global warming. The upcoming ice age is the fault of many
nations including the USA, but India has the largest contribution to
global warming of any nation (highest population, corrupt government
not creating air quality emission regulations, almost no remaining
forest, widespread burning, etc).
[snip a bunch of nonsense claiming global warming is a good thing]
I'm not surprised Habshi is anti-environment because he's a racist,
and there's a correlation between racism and anti-environment
attitudes.
Habshi should visit the villages in India that endured 120 degree heat
for much of last summer and tell them global warming is a good thing!

ahahahaha....Professor Kolker, you take things so serious this morning.
Let me post some more of such intellectual gems from Lomax for you
to perform serious and nerve wrecking analytical work over:
Lomax said on 01-29-04: A year ago (February 1, 2003) we saw
what happens when Hindustani and Israeli cosmonauts get involved in
space projects. ....
01-17-04 The offspring of brahims are as stupid as the "JAP" offspring
of rich white Americans. (for those not up with the lingo, JAP means
Jewish-American Princess, not the hate slur used against the honorable
Japanese).
01-14-04: The typical heathcare information computer program has
more bugs than a rotting stump.
01-19-04: A recent study shows that breast cancer is caused by
shaving one's armpits, then applying deodorant. This explains why
Europeans are less likely to get breast cancer!
01-20-04: I don't condone the "darkies" wording, because ....
.........Lomax is black. Go figure, Bob. Green he is for sure....
and then his programming job that floated over to India....ahahaha..
So, like Habshi's Indians saved us from glaciation,
Terry Lomax now wants to save himself from the Indians.

I was referring to right-wingers such as Rush Limbaugh and GW Bush,
who support racist and environmentally destructive actions. Habshi is
the Hindu equivalent of right-wing white Judeo-Xtian Americans.
The Sierra Club has been accused of "xenophobia" because they want to
protect American natural resources by reducing immigration. The USA
population growth rate is nearly zero from native births, but the USA
population still grows exponentially because of immigration. Perhaps
the Sierra Club could specify which countries bring good immigrants
and which countries don't: Mexico OK, India bad, China good.
Immigrants from India typically are extremely destructive and wasteful
to the American and world environment. Chinese-Americans typically
have a minimal impact, not wasting anything.
Often "environmental" groups are hijacked by repulsive idiots who
alienate people and give the public an unrealistic bad impression of
the environmental movement. Some "green" leaders in Europe and
America make racist remarks such as "poor people in Asia and Africa
shouldn't be allowed to breed".
Plug "global warming could cause ice age" into Google or a similar
search engine and you'll see many people believe in this theory. This
theory shoots down Habshi's claims that there'd be ice a mile high in
NY were it not for Hindustani increasing CO2 levels.

What statistics do you have to back up this ridiculous assertion ? Are
Indians most destructive because they are among the richest minority
groups ? Quite to the contrary Indians are getting recognition in the
US as among the hardest working and most highly educated groups.

Don't get the Chink's involved in this. WTF kind of statistics do you

As though either statement is supportable. You have no idea, nor does
anybody else, what the result of shutting down the Gulf Stream would
be. Sure, we'd know what happened on Monday. By Friday it is
anybody's guess. The transported energy has to go somewhere. All

The last time the Atlantic Conveyer shut down, Europe had the "little
ice age". See "Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates" for a description of
what it was like. During TLIA people in Amsterdam could skate on the
canals during the winter. They all froze over.

A new wah of extracting energy from ethanol , blowing a fine
mist of it in air , gets 60% of the energy out , three times what
additives to fuel . This means that we may soon be able to devote
large areas to ethanol production and drive bigger suv cars.
Sheep and goats and camels pull plants from the roots and
cause soil erosion and degradation and eventually the land cant
support the people and they have to go on Jihads.
Cows only cut the grass and return the fertility back to the
soil . That is why India still is fertile and has increased its forest
coverage . So the ancient Hindus were wise and realised that where
cows were spared the soil remained fertile and that is why they revere
(not worship , in fact the animals are revered and not worshipped) .

I have an intelligent Indian friend, who has an engineering degree. He's
reasonable about almost everything--except when he starts talking about the
accomplishments of ancient India. Did you know that they measured the
distances to the planets to within angstroms? Or that they have proven that
crystals can change people's health and personalities? Or that certain
Indian masters can teach you to be psychic?
But mostly they're good at making people...
