Journey through center of the earth |
Has anyone solved the problem of a ball dropped through a hole through
the center of the earth from a more advanced perspective than simple
"freshman level" physics?
I'm looking for something that may be based on Hamilton's equations and
may include the Coriolis force. It's been a long time since grad
school and I'm trying to win a bet with a friend
Thanks
Guy
please email me with solutions

'm looking for something that may be based on Hamilton's equations and
may include the Coriolis force.
forget the coriolis for the first ansatz.
I can give you the result for the "normal" first ansatz which includes
earth having a homogenous density from the surface to the center. there
is a vaccum in the hole and it it drilled exacatly through the center
of the globe
when you throw a ball into this hole, it will come back after while
and keep swinging forever.
since this is a bet I will only give the maths, when i get half of the
(hopefully) interesting premium (hee heee heeee grwgh)
2. then try to have a density function depending on the distance from
the center ( as a general function rho(r)) the equation will be much
more diffcult to solve for the general case.
3. than fill the whole with air and make it wide enough for the ball.
4. than make the whole more narrow still filled with air (the ball may
spin while falling and the air will have trouble to pass along)
5. than take coriolis and think of the friction between the ball and
the hole

No material can reach the center of the earth (not even diamond). The
heat and pressure will turn into hot gas.

No material can reach the center of the earth .....
This is about a _theoretical_ calculation!
Even though there is the plan, to drill a hole into the pacific near
the equator deep an wide enough to let the sea water reach the magma.
The water will be heated up to steam. Thus mankind will be able to turn
earth into a maneuvrable space ship and we might be able to fly to the
mars or to the sun or even to another star. yeah, and i am the owner
of the drilling company

Maybe gravity is caused by these pressures inside earth. Just a theory.

Yeah, there are pascalyons which have been found to solve the
quantized Schwarzschild equ and they are the cause of mass...
of course, only theory. pascalyons decay within 10^-50 sec when
leaving the Schwarzschild realm and have never been observed in hawaii

I think it's gas pressure inside earth core which causes gravity.
