Oh, if you're interested in the thread with references on how Macs have
long been cheaper than PCs, try here:

Can you seriously turn down AMD for Intel? Are you aware how much
Intel, like Windows, has been a scam of money over power that has
irreversibly harmed the world both in our resources and our image?
<http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.mac.advocacy/browse_frm/thread/a9bb79a036518a11/3c6655d3d46f31a6?q=%22threatens+to+Kill+Google%22&rnum=1#3c6655d3d46f31a6>
And the Mighty Mouse was completely unnecessary. In the eBay forum I
argued that Macs have long supported at least 16 kinds of clicks by the
keyboard. And for efficiency and multifunctionality(!), it's much more
sensible to develop a trackpad than a mouse from Apple, that can
emulate just about any input device.
Oh, I sent feedback about the iPod's lack and repeated it in the
newsgroup, which developed a thread that expanded on my wants and
wishes from it:

Intel gives computer markers a whole chipset and cpu together in one
package, it's a saving for them, when if you go AMD you need to make a
seperate deal with the chipset makers. This mainly applies to notebooks, the
whole centrino thing is a very good deal for computer markers.

Amen. Dig the dual-core Opterons - 32- and 64-bit compatible, x86
compatible, low power consumption, faster throughput, vastly larger
memory bandwidth with controller on-chip... and cheaper than the Intel
competition.

AMD versus Intel is a mixed bag. Both make fine processors, and have
different strengths and weaknesses, for example Intel ones are
generally better at image decompression and reading memory blocks,
while AMD has much better floating point performance etc...

Actually Intel isn't really that good with interger or floating point
performance. What they are good at is vector performance, important for
things like vidoe encoding. And anyway, I'd argue that interger performance
is of lower importance today, as most tasks a computer does can be done
equally well on 5 year old hardware. It's vector and floating point
performance that still drives demand for more powerful CPU's.

Right, but OSX does have excellent support for all manner of mice, with
support for multiple buttons, scroll wheel and right click context menus.

Apple does a equally good just with computers. But it's hard for them break
into the market in a major way because their computers won't run mostof the
software on the market, a similar reason for why linux market share is tiny
compared to windows.

If you want to read/send Email, browse the web, do a little writing and

It's not a ease of use decision, it's the application software, if you

Yes, but the Mac OS is the king of Applications, while Windows has more,
Apple has much better Apps, Linux has neither for the general consumer.

wal-mart's solaris based servers sure suck at finding Linux! they
certainly don't show any Linux machines by searching for Linux in the
search fields of the entire site or in electronics. Walmart is probably
embarrassed by selling such low margin, low profit products so they bury
them.
So I guess, if you really dig at the back of the online store you can
find them, but most any shopper for Linux will think they don't sell
them. They certainly aren't under "Linux".

Oxford full of ***** again? say it isn't so....

I can't wait to see how he tries to explain away this and the Xandros
machines.

wal-mart's solaris based servers sure suck at finding Linux! they
certainly don't show any Linux machines by searching for Linux in the
search fields of the entire site or in electronics. Walmart is probably
embarrassed by selling such low margin, low profit products so they bury
them.

So I guess, if you really dig at the back of the online store you can
find them, but most any shopper for Linux will think they don't sell
them. They certainly aren't under "Linux".

:)

As predicted Rick, Oxford waffles away his false claim that Walmart no
longer sold Linux machines.
It's almost as funny as his claims re: Distrowatch stats.... Almost.
