Is anyone here actually published ?
I'm getting the distinct impression that this site is mostly college
students displaying what they heard in recent physics lecture.
Lots of science fantasy, which is of course ok....
But why all the arrogance ?
Why all the insult and ridicule when in fact almost all the science
you think you know
will ultimately be proven lacking or completely wrong ?
Ok now if you really want to be legit...repeat after me ;
"I know nothing. Everything I think I know is dust upon dust in the
big picture.
My arrogance and intellectual postureing sprouts from my primate
background....
my innate drive for a ever high social rank in whatever group I happen
to find myself in.
I'm an ape-like, I can't help myself.
That said I've a real desire for knowledge and exchange of ideas.
Please forgive my ridicules posturing in any future posts because I
forget myself.
I think it important as a scientist (even a wanna be) to keep
discussion at a civil level.
Civil discussion helps maintain civil society. Civil society is most
condusive to scientific research and advancement."

There are a few academics, but most are physics wannabes that are
too lazy to crack a book. AFAIK this behavior has been going on for
a couple of decades and involves folks that failed to learn physics
and mathematics--for some reason many of them think of themselves
as smart... yet their behavior is really really stupid and childish.
They avoid face to face physics discussions with real people and
hide behind the anonymity offered by the internet. Some put up
web sites and many of those wind up registered at places like
crank dot net.

Sam makes a good point when he points out that
some physics wannabe misfits put up web sites
for the express purpose of getting ego trips by attacking folks,
and some of these misfits use crank dot net as their primary reference,
even though it is the web site of an unemployed computer programmer,
who took some computer classes at a third rate California.
Sam also makes a good point when he points out that,
the misfits who attack messengers,
and put up personal attack web sites,
and use crank dot net as their primary reference,
are AFRAID of exposing their ignorance of physics by engaging in
"face to face physics discussions with real people."
Regarding FED UP's comment:
"Is anyone here actually published ?",
sci.physics is a place where
all kinds of folks who are interested in physics
can get together and discuss physics
in a friendly, rational, civilized way.
Unfortunately, as Sam points out, some misfits in sci.physics
inhabit the news group in order to attack messengers
and as this instigates flame wars,
and attracts immature flamers,
this greatly increases the noise level in the news group.
Perhaps someone should take a clue from crank dot net,
and put up a web site that puts a spotlight
on the sociopaths who attack messengers,
rather than address ideas in a rational, intelligent, civilized way.
The bottom line is that
it is better to expose sociopaths that attack messengers,
than it is to attack good folks who want to share their
ideas, thoughts, perceptions, and questions with the world.
What would be a good name for a web site that
put the spotlight on the misfits who attack folks
on the Internet?????

Tom Potter is an excellent example of someone inadequately tutored
in physics with a web site registered at crank dot net.

And Sam Wormy is an excellent example of someone inadequately tutored
in physics, General Relativity, Special Relativity, GPS, honesty and
good manners.
Not to mention that Sammy and his primary reference,
Erich Max Francis, the unemployed computer programmer
who took some data processing classes at a third rate California
college,
have serious reading comprehension problems.
As can be seen Sammy rarely comprehends his own references,
(If he even reads them.)
and Erich Max Francis attacks my poem "God is Culture" on his web site,
and calls it "Cranky" religion,
when anyone with a normal reading comprehension can plainly
see that the poem features PHYSICS and uses religion as a hook.
And as can be seen, Sammy persistently displays his dishonesty,
by asserting that the computer programmer's objection to my poem,
is a critic of my physics.
Apparently, Sammy and his main reference are so intent
on attacking folks, that they are incapable of comprehending
what the read.
I think Sammy problem is that he is a stress analysis grunt,
and perhaps I exposed his incompetence when Bill Bean,
Greer Ellis and I used to hold seminars for grunts like him.
Then again, Sammy might be upset because I pointed out that
he does not comprehend the GPS system,
and that he pretends to have an EDU web address,
so he can con folks into buying his garbage
he peddles from his web site,

I think you over estimate the knowledge level quite a bit.

Why all the insult and ridicule when in fact almost all the science

I attribute that to the anonymity of Usenet, and the protection it offers
