Le Sage's Shadows (was Pioneer anomaly revisited) |

Feel free to post the so-called ``corrections'' here.
Have no fear, I will.
Make sure to include equations,
pointing out the > 10 orders of magnitude alleged
``mistakes'' along with the ``corrected'' equations.
Also the plagiarisms, evasions, distortions and outright lies. The most
obvious distortion is that the webpage never actually describes LeSage's
model -- let alone modern versions. The only model described on the page
is a variant on Fatio's theory (Darwin's "light pressure" model). LeSage
knew better in 1750.
The author (Speicher again?) tries to cover this up as "Fatio/LeSage"
theory.
"Incidentally, although Lesage's model is much the same as had previously
been proposed by Nicolas Fatio, such models are almost invariably referred
to in modern literature as "Lesage theories" rather than "Fatio theories".
This may be because Lesage gave a more detailed and lucid account of it,
or it may simply be that those who discussed such theories in later years
were unaware of Fatio's priority."
The reason is simply that LeSage's theory eliminated many of the problems
of Fatio's (rough) theory. LeSage did this by noting that matter is not
opaque to gravific corpuscles (the key assumption of Fatio and
light-pressure
models). Hence the reason that such theories are called LeSage
theories -- instead of Fatio theories -- is that they are fundamentally
different
theories. And LeSagian theories work. They are both "kinetic" theories.
But there the similarity ends.
Wow, talk about quick use of the memory hole! By January 12th (within days
of my pointing out to Bilge that this slime page had not even mentioned Le
Sage's actual model) the content of the site changed slightly. It still
doesn't use Le Sage's model in any calculations -- but now it at least
mentions Le Sage's model. Without any notice of the revision, however.
Could it be that someone is attempting to cover their tracks?
It won't help. The site is too far gone for mere editorial corrections to
save it. (I have my comments under review, and will incorporate changes as
I become aware of them.) Look for them to be posted next week.

I thought the author of Mathpages is Kevin Brown?
The *administrator* of Mathpages is Kevin Brown. Just like Pete Brown is
the administrator of Mountain Man Graphics page
(www.mountainman.com.au/welcome.html). This does not mean that Pete
actually writes everything on the website.
Stephen Speicher once stated that *he* had written something that was a
Mathpages page. Later (but only after the page was changed) Speicher denied
that he was the author of that *particular* page.

Well, at least on Pete's site you know whom the author is of a particular
piece. ;-). If no author is given for a piece on a site, then one can only
make the assumption that the administrator wrote it. Or is at least
responsible for it in some way.

That is the standard on the www. Unless one likes to snipe and slander from
cover.
If no author is given for a piece on a site, then one can
only make the assumption that the administrator wrote it. Or is at

One does not need to make such an assumption.
However, since no one ever replies from the (required) Network Solutions ID,
who can tell?

I thought the author of Mathpages is Kevin Brown?
Thank you.

Of course, at the time, I hadn't noted that the webpage had been changed
(again without notice) before Speicher saw fit to declare.

Even if Speicher wasn't the author, it doesn't mean Kevin Brown *is* the
author. "Kevin Brown" is merely the site administrator.

First of all Stephen is Barry's guess, not mine. Second,
he shouldn't be since all the actual details in that page
are (how can I put it politely? Oh yeah) pure crap!

Personally I don't care about what he knows or dosen't know.
I'm sure the author does wants to remain anonymous given the pure
incompetence of the contents of that particular page.

By the way, does the part of the text which mentions crackpots
refer to an attempt to ``correct'' the author on a previous occasion?

Oh, Bilgey, the refutation has been up since the 17th. Cat got your
keyboard?

Who can tell? The 'crackpot' part was only added circa Jan 12th, after I
pointed out that the page never actually discussed Le Sage's theory at
all -- contrary to multiple assertions. I guess the author was feeling a
little defensive......

Why, David Semon, can't you read? I told you my rebuttal is being reviewed,
and would be posted next week. And why are you asking Paul?
By the way, does the part of the text which mentions crackpots

As usual, it's simply a slimy ad hominem tactic, of no substantive import.

The author (Speicher again?) tries to cover this up as "Fatio/LeSage"
theory.
?
