But the thing, as I see it, is that if plural marriage was really commanded
by the Lord, and as far as I am concerned that is not an assured thing in my
mind, it had nothing to do with lust. The reationalizations that have been
supplied for it, certainly do not.
Anything that God truly commands must be right unless He countermands the
command. It was right for Abraham to be willing to sacrifice Isaac, much as
I cannot understand it. That did not make him lust after innocent blood. It
would have been wrong, even evil, for him to carry on with the plan after
God had provided His own sacrifice. So if God indeed commanded some men to
take more wives than one, and did not countermand it. If he had commanded
women to take more husbands than one that would also be right. But one major
difference seems to me to exist between men and women, at least until modern
times, and that is that women are the source of food for infants. If a
mother died or was not able to nurse, a "wet nurse" was usually necessary.
Women after giving birth usually require some time (long or short) for
recuperation and regaining their vitality. Not that plural wives is right,
but it seems to me that it is different.
In my lifetime, which is considerably longer than Helen's, there was at
least a belief that may have been wrong, that women did not have the same
interest in sex as men. That may come from other mammals, in which the male
seems always ready to mate but the female is more reluctant. But there may
be some validity to the idea that the female willingness to mate is
dependent on the time since she gave birth.
It still comes down to whether or not one believes that God ever commanded
or even authorized plural marriage for a righteous purpose for men and not
for women. I don't really know and at this point, I don't really care. As
far as I know and believe He does not approve of that now. I am living now,
not some other time. I need to live according to what He says now. Does He
ever change? Not in any important way, but certainly He can alter His
directions to us.

I smoke too much... and eat too much. I had some Tylenol last year;
but, in general, I never take pain killers or antibiotics.
A lot of fancy-pants drugs are just sedatives,
I'm sure they wear down the Immune system, Nervous system, etc.

I am an lapsed (inactive) Latter day saint currently an agnostic and like
to post there. It has some really decent sorts and we do have some' good
chats.

I smoke too much too, many nurses do, well the ones I work with.
Psychiatric nursing can be stressful, that is my excuse till I get
emphysema anyway..

True, although I have seen first hand how beneficial anti psychotics are and
anti depressants.

Yes, some people have to have " anti psychotics are and anti depressants ".
My closest friend ( a bi-polar epileptic ) being Exhibit_A.
It's ultra-expensive too, if you don't have insurance.
The woman I'm " with " sometimes is into crack and alcohol
and she might be into heroin too. ( Many people hide their heroin habits )
Also, I think she likes " professor types ", like me.
( I'm not a professor, but I sometimes act like one ).
I can't make her my girlfriend...
My neighbors, landlord, cops etc., would all run me out of town.
