Magnetic Storm (Aurora producing) |
Space Weather News for Nov. 20, 2003
http://spaceweather.com
A coronal mass ejection swept past Earth during the early hours of Nov.
20th and sparked bright auroras over northern parts of the United States.
At the time of this writing (1600 UT or 11:00 a.m. EST) a strong
geomagnetic storm is in progress. The interplanetary magnetic field near
Earth has tilted sharply south--a condition which promotes geomagnetic
activity. If this condition persists, auroras are possible at low
latitudes tonight.
The source of this space weather is sunspot 484--one of the trio of big
sunspots that caused intense solar storms last month. Indeed all three of
those active regions are back on the Earth-facing side of the sun, so more
solar activity is possible in the days ahead.
Visit Spaceweather.com for more information and pictures of today's
auroras.

I'd say! Here in Central North Carolina (at 7:10PM EST) they are brighter
than they were a couple of weeks ago. Awesome!! To say the least.

cool site sam...Im going to look inside one tonight : ) long night !
By Jan ! Its night up here .."Ill take care of it in the morning"
must be te joke of the day up here !!
They dont say ***** up here ,,they say Fu Fu Friged .
The inside dont look like the outside of aroa.
It looks like sharp shapes of colors and many color boxes 200 feet tall
and strange shharp shapes...To get in one wile its not windy when it
hits the ground may be hard to do. But onceas a kid I stood under one up
there in the great alone.
At the same time we watch in the ice ,,just under ice and the sea
floor.
Up at the contenetal curent hook . Be 2 weeks befor we can get there
and can only post 1/2 the day and gps sucks up here Im glad I have a
sigless.
Gps sucks near an arora .
In fact I remeber most peope fear getting inside one. But it feals
intence yet calming inside it.
The trench sides up here have vever been seen here . Its been dark for
4 days ,
the curent is slower than the rest of the year.
Its pack ice 3 and 4 feet up , minus 25 F.
It got supper cold real fast . In 4 days we went from 25 above to 25
below . We are going to the northen islands of canada.
axel heiburg ,,the first crack on planet earth.
This is where all things get shoved to the bottom of the sea. If a
coconut gets here no silt fell on it. The ice stoppes silt from the
sky .
If it floated up here it was fozen in pack ice and ramed down deap
heating it then zreezing it again. Im allways watching the bottom.
Evry now and then ,,up in the ice you find a whale boat ..the islands
are litterd with ships up here. I hope for a viking ship down at 5000
feet . Cant use the fish up here they cant serface. Ice passing
under the ship would bust a cam line down ,,so Im on a rod down with the
cable going threw 100 feet of pipe down .
xray and red works best images.
a billion trees up here. A big tree is light at the sea floor . The
tree could sink anywhere on any beach and wind up here .
Things lost 200 years ago fond thier way here.
Many many things are in the ice its self.
Now and then you see a log sticking up ,,I found them to be 50 years
floating to 2000
is the oldest we found so far . We pull one up take a slise out and
toss the remainder ,
marked the biggest deap log 20 feet accross and 250 feet long . The
grab got us a branch .
No ida what kind it is. We yanked up a nice oak log 60 ton 1200 years
old and kept it.
The band saw failed to cut any of it. Its not petrified but to cold to
cut.
We found some tropical remains ,,floating bushes in the top ice.
Im not convinced just the curent gets them here ..the earths mag may
play a part.
A sunken log in the deap curents and under water storms could travel
forever.
And the sea so settled out ad silt free,, finding logs that keep
moving is a lesson of earths history . Logs can tell us better of
what happend when .
The 2000 year old tree lived 10,000 years ago
and grew for 2000 years after the ice age .
Tree rings tell its age and CDX tells when it died. This tree could
have gone down the grand cannion . The beach has a sise limit.
Evry thing else winds up in places around the would curents. Logs dont
all rot and the sea floor gets a billion trees per 100 years.
Logs go down standing up. They float funnie after the air is
compressed . Its the oil in the tree at that depth that makes them
float away .
The bark comes off after barnicals colect and the log gets north. Not
all logs get here but the ones we can find are here.
I saw a pepsi jug awaile ago. 70s .
If it would have had jaksons pic on it we would have taken a better
pic.
we found a container Im eating and breakng.
crunch crunch .. crack and thunder ..
wile the light show above at lunch is so ausome an the air so clear
space reaches the ice with a moonless night that wount end till a month
of dawn .
The crew still has tans from panama .
We put eggs out side to watch them explode.
Eggs grow wigs up here and you draw the face on first ,,,I lauphed my
***** off when they put3 funnie faces out there . The egg comes out and
freezes 3/4 the way up in 60 seconds then freezes like hair when it
pops.
Even warm gloves stick to things out side.
Its such a diferant world up here.
many of the same creatures live down there even up here ..but its very
baron out side the curent as life gose. thats where the trees are.
The sea out side a the curent ege is supper still. The clearest water
I ever saw.
They found wooden chairs off the titanic and it was not near as north
as this under the pack ice sea floor.
Im going back to looking at ice and the sky.
in 30 hours we start looking for vents .
Cant say tomarrow up here. but evryone says they will get it in the
morning ,,,in Jan .

Hi T.J , You say :
" While the light show above at lunch is so awesome
and the air so clear ,
space reaches the ice with a moonless night
that won't end till a month of dawn "
Wow ! Chills . I wish I could be there .

The NOAA numbers do not specifically refer to a "sunspot" but to an active
region. In any event, NOAA 10484 has been renumbered as 10501, since that
appears to happen on each solar rotation.
