MAXIPOL CMB Polarization Results
14 Nov 2006 - Two preprints describing the instrument and the data
analysis for the MAXIPOL balloon-borne polarization experiment were
posted today. The data were taken 3.5 years ago, and the final results
are an E-mode polarization amplitude of 55+51-45 μK2 in the range
of angular scales from 0.3 to 1.2 degrees. The prediction from the
standard flat vacuum-dominated ΛCDM cosmology with accelerating
expansion is 14 μK2. This result is consistent with the standard
model but also consistent with zero. The South Pole-based experiment
DASIPOL got better results earlier
