You really should be checking comp.text.tex, your questions
have probably been answered many times in their archives.

There's a link to a graphics tutorial there, which is well
worth downloading.
As somebody said, LaTeX expects to work with EPS graphics.
However, you can work with JPG if you have the
jpeg2ps utility and include a line like this in your
header:
\DeclareGraphicsRule{.jpg}{eps}{.jpg.bb}{'jpeg2ps -h -r 600 #1}
This command is defined in one the the packages. Probably this one
(declared before the above line).
\usepackage{graphicx}

If you what I expect, want to print your document from a post script file,
you'll have to change picture format to eps, most picture editing programs
can do that for you.
