Newton and Fermat Family Name "Coincidences" |
From Osher Doctorow
"Newton" means "new town" or "new settlement", while the closest thing
that I can find to the name Fermat is French "fermer", to close.
But Sir Isaac and Pierre De Fermat were so similar (see my thread on
Nonrenormalization vs Renormalization, which is still ongoing, as well
as some of my past threads) that one might well ask whether they were
related or even whether their names may have affected their methods.
For example, the name Doctorow prompted me partly as a child to study
by analogy with "Doctor". Our ancestor was supposedly a medical
Doctor.
Both closing and novelty are psychologically salient stimuli/words -
they tend to grab the attention, which is also true of
intensity/magnitude, pattern, change, novelty (already mentioned). I
pointed out in one of my last few postings that Creative Genius may
arguably involve focusing on Real World Knowledge and exerting effort
to focus on that. The words "to close" are usually associated with a
force exerted to close a door, and this is generalized to various more
abstract meanings in Knowledge but which retain some of this Real World
origin arguably. In other words, I would argue that a person with a
name meaning "to close" would quite plausibly be inclined to try hard
as a child. Likewise, a person with a name meaning "novelty" or "new"
would be inclined toward invention/discovery/Creative Genius.
Now as homework, go back and reread my last 10 or 20 posts. Don't
worry much about the comments by Harry C. claiming that in effect I
don't know anything and may be on drugs - I claim that he's possibly
winding himself up for the African version of the recent Latino "take
back the USA for the Aztec women-sacrificers" march, this time for
November. He hasn't commented on any of my papers until now for at
least a year - perhaps he's been too busy lying in the African
equatorial sun. It's been known to tire people excessively.

From Osher Doctorow
Actually, the African and Latino equatorial sun tire people both
mentally and physically. Great Scott, isn't that Harry C? :>) Happy
Passover and Happy Easter, Harry - if one isn't suited for you, perhaps
the other will be.
