A kind forward of a recent article referenced on the internet portal on
drought & water shortages, where Australia is making more and more the
headlines ... through its own fault indeed !!!
Please read on and be edified, and also ponder on the best choice to
make : either to stand on the Mining Criminals and the Political
backers' side or on Sir Turcaud 's !
The end of the formidable present Drought will be resulting from
Australia 's decision ... but you have all your time for that ... in
the meantime the complete ban is enforced on all water ressources in
Australia at large, and further orders issued for replacing fresh
water in water tables with brackish water .... just to put the
pressure on a bit !

Australia's scorched earth
The fact that Australia is by far the driest of the five continents and
that global warming is a reality is only now beginning to dawn dimly in
the minds of the leaders of the main political parties. The Federal
Government has for years ignored all the signs pointed to by scientists
and, under the leadership of the United States, refused to sign the
Kyoto Protocols which aimed to reduce the carbon emissions believed
almost unanimously to be responsible for global warming.
Even now, faced with an almost nation-wide drought and the prospect of
many farmers being forced off the land, the government's policies
still fail to address the real issue of climate change and the
conservation of water. Millions of dollars are being poured into the
pockets of farmers while little is being done to meet these two
interconnected issues.
Of course climate change is an international issue and cannot be
overcome by any single country acting on its own. The Kyoto conference
was a major step in that direction and the refusal of the Australian
Government to ratify its results boarders on criminal irresponsibility.
On the water shortage issue nothing has been done to stop the use of
our limited water resources on projects such as cotton farming which is
a water guzzler if ever there was one. The main users of water are
those engaged in agriculture and not city dwellers although one gets
the impression that governments concentrate on water use in the cities
rather than looking at the main users. That's not to suggest that
more cannot be done in the cities.
No matter how many millions of dollars are pumped into the country-side
to keep farmers on the land, it will not do anything to meet the
drought conditions. It does not provide one extra litre of water and
does nothing to meet the ravages of climate change. It is a
continuation of the failed economic policies that have contributed to
the crisis in the first place.
For generations Australia's agricultural and pastoral industries have
suffered from over-cultivation and over-grazing until the land requires
probably a century rest if it is to be returned to its original
condition. Consequently, no matter how many millions of dollars are
paid out this year, next year and the year after to assist farmers, the
despoiled land will not be regenerated.
Australia needs a long-range plan which requires that many of the past
land practices be ended - stop cotton growing, rest the land from
grazing, end wheat production in marginal land, deal with salination,
undertake regrowth of grasses and trees - to mention only a few of
the steps that have to be taken. The alternative is to continue as
before until continual usage creates a vast dust-bowl and tens of
thousands of square kilometres of unusable land. In quite widespread
areas that point has already been reached.
The Federal Government's policies (and those of State Governments
which have shown just as much short-sightedness and stupidity) are
driven by short-term and largely useless measures and political
self-interest.
It looks almost certain that the Murray-Darling River system will be
turned into a series of dried up river-beds. What then for all the
farmers (in addition to the cotton growers) and towns whose very
lifeblood is the water from these rivers?
Howard has now turned to nuclear energy as a source of energy
production ignoring (quite apart from other considerations) the fact
that nuclear power stations use a large volume of water for cooling
purposes.
While campaigning for the use of nuclear power the Federal Government
has virtually nothing to say about the use of sustainable energy
sources. The use of solar power and wind power are two such resources
plentifully available in Australia. Our continent is undoubtedly short
of water but it has plentiful sunlight. Why not use it?
It is not merely the short-sightedness of governments that is
responsible. What really stands in the way is the domination of the
economy by big corporations whose irresponsibility is matched only by
that of the government. Their lust for short-term profits blinds them
to the longer-terms interest and needs of the continent.
In addition to a long-term plan Australia also needs a new government
with new policy directions. We are not like to get one without the
other.

Once again, that's simply more of our resident warlord's DNA of lust
talking. In which case, you're screwed.

How about selling that yellowcake for 10 cents on the dollar, as that
way you'd get rid of that nasty stuff as well.
BTW; the antarctic has lots of fresh water that's rather nicely frozen
but otherwise thawing out rather quickly. So, you might as well make
good use of it before it's not there to behold.

I wouldn't go quite that far, whereas most everything since the arrival
of our global warming moon isn't entirely at risk of being bogus, just
somewhat badly skewed into the nearest space-toilet that had us somehow
