oil spills |
Hi,
I was just wondering..... since the valdez oil spill or any other previous
ones........ have oil tankers been designed differently, if so, how?
I can't find any information on "learning from disaster", so to say.......
Any info appreciated,
Thanks

Of course not.
The people who hire the tankers are not responsible for
the oil in shipment. You don't own a taxi when you get a lift in one do
you? And if it runs into someone you don't expect to pay the fines and
compesation either.
If the oil companies can get a captain to deliver oil cheaper in an old
and dangerous bucket flying a flag of convenience, they will. Welcome to
reality.

The inspections on international standards got touph. If the inspector
can shut down the oil pump to the engine the allarm beeter sound and the
aux oil pump kick on and prevent the engine from stopping.
NOT all tankers carry oil.
Tar ,,cooking oil ,,water.. not all tankers nead be double hull. Just H
carriers.
The crew must have all certs and pass drug/alc test . The ships
certs are so extream
the engine is blue printed and filed on each small part.
Omegaventure 1 ,,99000 ton panamax .
Omegaventure 2 ,,250000 ton suppemax.
They make more money than cruise ships.
cruise ship 200 to 500 million .
Suppermax tanker 150 million .
Supper max makes 100 grand a day.
The 50,000 hp engine is 20 feet tall and runs at 250 rpm.
It takes 5 miles to bring it to a stop at full reverse speed.
I own a few tankers and a few cruise ships.
My ice breaker shakdown sea tryals in november 4 th to 10th . we load
then will go north fr the winter on sci aventure one.
Explorer 2 , explorer 1 is for sale for 4 mil.
explorer 2 cost 300 million .
ex russian ice breaker 5000 ton .

Now lawyer read his question .
Was the val 2 hulls or single ??
Impact studdys and the new bulkermax.
Omegaventure GPS pilpt/plotter

Note that areas that were cleaned of petroleum by Enviro-whiner fiat
after the Exxon Valdex are still biologically depauperate. Areas that
were missed have the usual floral and faunal populations. Gather up
the excess spill and go home. The largest oil spill in recorded
history - Saddamn Hussein filling his end of the Gulf with oil to
prevent a (non-scheduled) Marine invasion, First Gulf War - had no
remediation whatsover. There were no lasting effects in this "fragile
and endangered environment."
Post Exxon Valdex, oil tankers were required to be double-hulled.
This adds enormous expense to building the ships and lowers their
capacity/displacement. Curiously... The double wall causes
extraordinary hull corrosion rates both chemically and by encouraging
biology. We thus enjoy realization of the Enviro-Whiner trinity:
Expensive, shoddy, deadly. The "safe" tankers are both more hazardous
and less useful than the "unsafe" ones, and they cost more.
Religion wallows in human suffering while protesting that it is
delivering heaven.

Thats not true uncle al.
Scrap steel is worth more than ore.
The corosion is less if you can find any at all.
After 20 years its a bulker ,,just change the
cargo doors from an old bulker and you have a real clean bulker for the
price of scrap.
Take Omegaventure 1 . $ 2 mil at the end of 20 years ,,you buy it and
load it with logs and park it in itlay where 10,000 tons is sold evry
month. 10 ships wount sail and one where house gets sold and the logs
are 3 million less and delivery is on the spot .
Besides the fact once its no longer hauling oil it can haul molasses !
Great lakers will bust in two if you load it wrong but you can ballace
a tanker on another tanker and haul it !
EVRY weld getting xrays at the build is what drives the cost up ,,but
who wants to die in a tanker anyway ?
Oar to steel is 100 bucks a ton if you own the oar and the steel mill
,,wile scrap is 150 a ton.
Scrap will go up ,,you cant buy a used tanker and loose money . You
get a free ship for 5 years and still make money when you scrap it.
You will loose money when you scrap a laker.
You will make money when you scrap the tanker.

No and no.
While there would be double hulls to prevent or better control a spill,
they are considered being too expensive.
And since shipping under a low cost flag such as panama is also
rewarded not only by almost no requirements, the crew can also
consist of the cheapest untrained workers. It is a true a double
saver.
