Price of Copper |
I have what might be described as a large copper dish. It may weigh 40-60
pounds. It's 26" in diameter and 4-6" deep with walls that are about 3/4"
deep. I'm pretty sure it used to be used with a cassegrainian telescope.
Perhaps it held a large mirror. It has a hole in the bottom. What's the
price of copper? I may want to sell if for our museum?

***{There are lots of places where you can check the price of copper.
Try http://quotes.ino.com/chart/?s=NYMEX_HG.N07&v=w for intra-day
quotes. Longer term, a good source is
http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?c=$copper,uu[w,a]waoannay. Try
http://www.kitcometals.com/ for spot quotes. The most recent bid, as of
this writing, is $3.2591/lb. That is the price dealers will pay for
refined copper that has been poured into bars. Your dish, however, will
sell for less, because of the risk that it is not pure copper and
because the buyer will incur the cost of refining and pouring. Contact
some scrap metals dealers in your area, see what they will pay, and
take the best bid. Expect it to be a lot less than $3/lb. It may be less
than $2. Good luck! --MJ}***
