I got a question on Warren Siegel's "Fields"
(http://arxiv.org/abs/hep-th/9912205). on page 103 he mentions a
"_general_ matrix identity":
det(A) = exp(tr(ln(A)))
which is obvious if A is hermitian. But what does he intend to express
by using the word "general"? It is clear that the identity is not true
for all matrices.
