One difficulty with the view that real scalars underwent a phase shift
to matrices and tensors during Inflation is the fact that +/-
"decoupled" from the Unified operations +, -, multiplication, division
arguably during Inflation, which is opposite in direction from the
multiplication involved in determinants of matrices for example.
A better idea appears to be that the phase shift from real scalars to
matrices and tensors occurred after inflation was over, at which time
multiplication and division arguably took over again but with some
remnants of addition-subtraction.
Could this latter process also explain the origin of matter or mass,
the phase change from a radiation-dominated to a matter-dominated
Universe? Yes, but perhaps in combination with other things.
Simultaneous equations are fundamentally expressed by matrices and
also spinors, so GR and to a considerable extent Quantum Theory
arguably use matrices (the former as representations of tensor in
particular coordinate systems) and spinors and even quaternions and
octonions because the simple scalar picture has been made more
complicated by several simultaneous processes.
After Inflation, the Universe arguably had an opposite "problem" from
its original 0 pointlike or stringlike or branelike state problem,
namely the "problem" of infinity or at least an over-abundance of
processes. In shifting from scalars to matrices, tensors, spinors,
quaternions, octonions, the Universe was now paralleling the
relatively new predominance of multiplication and division over
addition and subtraction in responding to infinity or an over-
abundance of processes.
Would this phase ever end? I think that it has already ended with
the latest acceleration of the Universe several billion years ago.
Not long after, life would become important, and if nothing else life
tends to follow the Riccati Logistic and Exponential growth/
contraction/decay equations and so fundamentally addition and
subtraction via Probable Influence/Causation (PI). I think that this
latest phase is due to the difficulty that the Universe literally has
with simultaneous equations and matrices, tensors, spinors,
quaternions, octonions! They are great for Pluralities, but not for
Individuals, and the Universe despite all its appearances is arguably
a gigantic Individual which "prefers" unlike some people to know where
it is, what it is, where it is going, and even arguably why!
There is perhaps one caution to be said. If the Universe is really
like "Mother Nature," then it may well be very "disturbed" by a bunch
of human Individuals acting like hypnotized "Super-Individual"
Pluralities rather than Individuals which they really are. What
looks like the opposite trend in current human life is arguably self-
defeating. Both Pluralism as an idea of merging into some Super-
Inidividual Plurality and Me-First-Number-One-ism ignore most
Individuals whether separately or in interactive situations.
