Quantum Gravity 224.2: Langlands and Edward Witten Won the NemmersPrize |

Edward Witten in 2000 and Robert P. Langlands in 2006 won the Nemmers
Prize of Northwestern University USA, which prize was designed to
award Nobel Prize-level research in Mathematics and Economics (and
other areas, but it has been restricted to the above two fields).
The University of St. Andrews in Scotland have a biography of
Langlands, "Robert Phelan Langlands," www-groups.dcs.st-and.ac.uk.
That University has the main biographies of mathematicians on the
internet.
Interestingly, Langland's 1995-1996 Wolf Prize was shared with Andrew
Wiles, who proved Fermat's Last Theorem.
Langlands is two years and one month older than me, and was born in
British Columbia Canada, and was the first winner of the American
Mathematical Society (AMS) National Academy of Sciences Award in
Mathematics in 1988.
