Since Force is arguably so important in the physics idea of Causation
from Sir Isaac Newton, its de-emphasis in Quantum Theory and General
Relativity and their "relatives" is arguably a major error.
This de-emphasis was arguably due to a fad in physics, namely the
choice of energy over force as "fundamental" and the obscurity of
"fields" as opposed to wave-particles. Notice that quantum field
theorists don't refer to "field-particles" but to "fields" period, and
even when they use generalized Lagrangians and Hamiltonians they tend
to avoid the question of how particles/strings/Superstrings/branes are
related to fields. They think of masses as parameters in Lagrangians
and forces are just "something related to different types of
Lagrangians" which is like saying that Causation is another name for
"nothing left to lose". Even the exceptionally perceptive T. Y. Cao
(1997) who analyzed the paradoxes and contradictions and deeper
semantics involved was satisfied with "fields as fundamental" and
"particles as add-ons" in my terminology. This is like putting the
cart before the horse.
Another direction from which de-emphasis of Force came is tensor
analysis in General Relativity, since energy-momentum and stress-energy
and similar tensors involve energy but not force. In some ways,
tensors replaced Causation as fundamental in GR, even though tensors at
most have a property like dimensions in that all non-empirical physical
equations are supposed to be tensor equations and every term has to
have the same tensor degree or order. Actually, tensors arguably have
deficiencies (see my recent post on the lack of fundamental nature of
tensors and also even Clifford algebra/Spacetime Calculus deemphasize
tensors in general). But the worst part is that even if tensors were
as fundamental as dimensions like M, L, T, theta, Q, those latter 5 are
"building bricks" and not Causes. It's like saying that "atoms cause
the Acceleration of the Universe." You may have named building bricks
(actually, the wrong ones probably, but the idea is similar), but
where's the Cause?
Computer programmers would find physics full of wrong decisions on a
flowchart, and these decisions are similar to the wrong decisions which
Algebra "induces". Algebra is "too many things for too many people,
too much data," and "too few principles relating them, too little
theory." Algebraic geometry and algebraic topology are fads, though
geometry and topology are not. So is Energy-orientation as opposed to
Force-orientation in physics, and arguably complex-orientation rather
than real-orientation, and even complexity-orientation (not the same as
complex-orientation) rather than simplicity-orientation, and
tensor-orientation rather than orientation to other
quantities/qualities.
