As developed in my recent threads, Quantum Gravity and Dark Energy can
be regarded as Zero-Infinity (coded as 0-1) duals, expressed especially
in the logistic differential equation subtype of the Riccati
differential equation:
1) dy/dt = ky(1 - y)
where y is normalized/standardized to be in [0, 1] or (0, 1) or [0, 1).
The usual assumption with the logistic differential equation is that
the 1, or for nonstandardized variables some positive constant k1,
represents "supply upper limit" so that the tendency of y to increase
is balanced by the upper supply limit deficit b - y or 1 - y which
tends to slow y or make it decrease. However, in P(A-->B) = 1 + P(AB)
- P(A), probability value 1 represents "certainty" (up to a set of
probability 0) which is the probability-statistics analog of
"infinitely likely" rather than merely an upper bound. Also,
probability of 0 is the opposite end of the scale to "infinitely
likely" up to a set of probability 0, though because of the exceptional
set of probability 0 it is more accurate to say that if P(A) = 0 then
either A is "infinitely unlikely" or else A is "infinitely thin/small"
in one or more dimensions (usually spatial and/or time, though more are
possible).
Since both strings/branes and points (which are zero-branes) have
probability 0 when described by continuous random variables (they are
"infinitely thin" in at least one dimension in n-dimensional
space(time)), one way to picture the Universe is as subject to two
oppositely directed forces at each point/string/brane, one from the
point/string/brane and one from infinity. A second way is to consider
that the force "at infinity" might actually be an outward pull rather
than a push, while that force "at a point/string/brane" is an inward
pull.
So we could regard Dark Energy as pulling the Universe outward from
infinity and Gravitation as pulling the Universe inward from any
point/string/brane, or else it might be that what we usually think of
as Gravitation is actually due to an inward push from infinity and that
a point/string/brane not subject to an inward push from infinity (among
other things) has a built-in outward push which is Dark Energy.
Could we localize both Gravitation and Dark Energy at each
point/string/brane? In other words, could every point/string/brane or
particle/string/brane have both a Gravitational inward pull tendency
and a Dark Energy outward push tendency, not necessarily balanced?
This would do away with infinity. I prefer infinity, but it could
well be that the viewpoints produce similar results at least locally.
Notice that if a point/string/brane does push outward, it doesn't
necessarily expand (mathematicians tend to frown on expanding points
for example due to various technicalities) in its usual matter sense
but it may expand either the wave or field associated with it or the
geometry in a local neighborhood.

The 0-1 or 0-infinity Quantum Gravity theory, or 0-1QG for short, also
arguably can be applied to a number of other problems in physics,
including confinement, attractions of oppositely charged particles,
repulsions of similarly charged particles, and varying behaviors of
different fundamental forces. All of these would be regarded as
reducing to Gravitation vs Dark Energy forces to different or varying
degrees so that instead of 4 fundamental forces there are really only
2, and though like spatial dimensions of Length L (Lx, Ly, Lz) they can
be used as 4 "force dimensions" F1, F2, F3, F4 when different scenarios
are involved.
An advantage of these scenarios is that no special type of "missing
object" (Dark Matter, Dark Energy as something "exotic" or presently
"invisible", etc.) is needed with the provision that if infinity is
used it is a "mathematical object" with possible relationships to
singularities "very far from point/string/brane".

Several researchers have similarly been dissatisfied with the
suggestions about "mysterious missing substances" like Chaplygin gas
and have proposed scenarios in which the mathematics is reinterpreted
physically, as 0-1QG does.
For example, Branko Dragovich of Institute of Physics Belgrade, Serbia
and Montenegro, in "p-Adic and adelic cosmology: p-Adic origin of dark
energy and dark matter," hep-th/0602044 v1 4 Feb 2006, proposes that
the real numbers represent the visible parts or sides of the Universe
and the p-adic numbers represent the "dark sides" (dark energy, dark
matter) of the Universe, and obtains remarkable quantum and other
parallels. Perhaps the most fascinating result from a
combinatorics/arithmetic/number theory viewpoint is the critical
dimensions of spacetime in string theory (D = 10 for superstring and D
= 26 for bosonic strings) and the number of spacetime dimensions in
M-theory (11) fall out "automatically" from Dragovich's machinery.
In some ways, the energy coming in or out from/to the higher
superstring/brane dimensions has a similarity to the use of infinity in
0-1QG to push inward or pull outward.

In psychology and biology, the role of expansion-contraction is
similarly simplified by 0-1QG type theory. Organisms across the scale
of biology have ability to expand vs contract that seems "inherent" in
life itself and enables avoiding danger and moving toward food and so
on. Instead of postulating complicated "missing links", it is simplest
arguably to consider that life makes use of direct control over
expansion-contraction in 0-1QG.
In psychology, we have direct intuition of expanding vs contracting
perception and, with some effort, memory and even cognitions. For
example, when awakening we make an effort to expand our perception,
memory, cognitions. When falling asleep, those three scenarios
arguably collapse or contract. Once again, instead of devising
complicated specific explanations, it's simplest to consider that
mental or psychological control over expansion-contraction in
perception, Knowledge, etc. is involved of the 0-1QG type.
