Re: Bridge design |
i am a bridge desiner who desighned about 60 bridges
during abot 39 years and yet
i have no idea about how even to start answering you question!!
it takes many years to do it
need academic study of statics strength of materials
even constraction technologies
organization of the steps of construction
studying all the intermediate dangerous situations
safety considerations during building
etc etc
anyway for a secondary schoold student
you can start just withthe geometry!
oh yes i forgot that it start with the archtecture business
ie
the desiner has to think first:
wha that structure is ment to *serve*
so first it has to serve some road
or for passing people from side to side
in bridge desighn unlike a building desighn:
the structural Engineer is the leadr not the architect
the architect is just folowing the engineer (in most cases)
anyway there is a lot to do by the Aestethic point of view.
then there is the stability problem
so try extract from the student a fist suggestion for structure
*with proper dimentions that can beuseful ansd answering the
demanded standars of traffic
and ten try to extract from him stability need acording to his
understanding
and i didnt metioned foundation problems in different sites
different grounds etc etc
enough as a start
