.... ahahaha... many, many magnitudes larger amounts of Uranium
are emitted into the environment by the coal fired power plants
then there is by military use of U. Check also into the radioactivity
of ordinary Granite, due do its U contents... and then, the Public
Health risk from radio activity is also probably much, much larger
from Radon gas that accumulates in the basements of houses.
AFA the "VA's denial":... It's the squeaky wheel that get the oil...
See here how that machination is worked by class 1,2,3 enviros:

OTOH AFA radioactivity dangers, there was a truly tragi-comic
event that involved the old Co60 x-ray machines. See here:

Would there be all this fuss if DU was non-radioactive, but just as toxic?
Where are all the complaints about the vast amount of lead dispersed into
the envirnoment by conventional battlefield bullets? Not to mention the
carcinogenic combustion products of some conventional explosives.
And not a whisper from the environmentalists about the possible
non-radioactive replacement of DU with something that is, by comparison,
insanely carcinogenic.
As for "Gulf War Syndrome" it now appears that much of it was not caused
by DU but by Saddams ammunition dumps, which contained large amounts of
nerve gas, being blown up ie dispersed into the environment.
Is this really just kneejerk fear being exploited in Joe Public when they
hear "Uranium" and "radiation" like in 'nucular' (sic) bombs?

You've got that right, especially your insight about the enviros,
who pose a danger to public (mental) health that's far, far greater
then is possible by even military actions. Greenism is pure evil.

Take care, guys

Radioactivity aside, uranium is middling toxic in its own right.
Moreover, the pure metal used in munitions burns like a son of a
*****, making uranium-containing fumes and smoke. Being downwind of an
exploding DU warhead isn't my idea of a health enhancer.

I don't get your message.
Hoo ha? I'm not fond of lead, either. I've managed to stay healthy
through a 40+ yr career in chemistry by taking care with things like
Pb, Hg, As, plus a mess of radioisotopes.
Read the tale of Karen Wetterhahn, another crybaby environmentalist
who got all in a knot over mercury compounds. .

undoubtedly. i had the thrill of doing fire assays for a couple years
and didn't see any blood Pb elevation.
my point was that much of the shouting about DU is a boogeyman
argument. something, anything that the proponents don't understand is
waved like a red flag as a cause of many ills.
its all about basic fear and ignorance of chemistry.
