In the mean time, you might concentrate on helping kidney function. I
don't know what effect a few beers would have on eugenol in your
system, but it would increase kidney output.

[Eric]

I was also thinking a small amount of ethanol might increase liver
function, whether it be ethanol dehydrogenase or other oxidative enzymes
like cytochrome P-450, which as I understand it, is often involved in
oxidizing and detoxifying phenols and other aromatics. Not too much,
though, as that will worsen the liver damage.

As I have pointed out,
China's health care system
is much better than the Western systems.
Rather than going to a doctor's office,
you go to the hospital of your choice,
and pay one to ten dollars
to see a doctor.
The doctor takes you blood pressure,
takes your temperature,
listens to your heart,
looks at your tongue,
and discusses your symptoms.
He then prescribes additional test, if necessary,
or prescribes medicine if appropriate.
If additions tests are require,
you proceed to the testing stations,
and are promptly given blood test, EKGs,
X-rays, ultrasound, urine test, stool tests etc.
These tests typically cost one to five dollars.
The results of most tests are given to you in
a matter of minutes, and you take them back to
the doctor, he looks them over,
and prescribes medicine or more tests
as required.
The medical industry doe not have a monopoly
on good medicine, and most medicines
can be bought over the counter very cheaply.
In additions to Western medicines and methods,
the Chinese have a number of medicines that
are much better than Western medicines.
Vitamins are also very cheap.
For example, yesterday, I bought a bottle
of 100 B-complex vitamins for about $1.50.
Chinese are also very health conscious.
Unlike Westerners, who eat sandwiches
with their hands after touching money,
the Chinese cook fresh food at high temperatures,
serve it immediately, and avoid touching the food
with their hands, and after handling money,
they tend to wash their hands.

[hanson]
ahahaha.. "better" meaning what? If the CIA fact book is not lying
then what you said does not have much credence because:
Life expectancy is in:
China:
72.58 years == male: 70.89 years -- female: 74.46 years
USA:
77.85 years == male: 75.02 years -- female: 80.82 years
So, your gig over there may not even be as good as is ours.
But if your impression keeps you healthy, power to you, Tom.

I have the feeling that this event will be like many other transformations

[Tom]

ahahaha.. "better" meaning what? If the CIA fact book is not lying

[hanson]
..... ahahahaha... How would I know? You tell me, Tom... ahahaha....

[Tom]

Of course, about 70% of the Chinese live in rural areas with
poor access to hospitals, and this would affect the statistics.

[hanson]
.... ahahaha...no, it would not 'cuz: ... "of course, about 70% of
the" Americans have poor acces to cash... and this would
affect the statistscs too.... ahahaha...

[Tom]

Also, I don't think Chinese doctors keep vegetables alive
[until?] their insurance runs out.

[hanson]
Neither do they here in the US. Hospitals even have you declare
whether you wish that "heroic" measures should be taken or not
in case you fall into a state of coma or "vegeyability". see below [A].

[Tom]

The Chinese medical care SYSTEM is better,
but it is not yet available to all folks.

[hanson]
AHAHAHA... Same here in the USA. It's not available to all folks
especially if you replace "available" with "affordable", which
brings us back to the sentence I have posted earlier in,
http://groups.google.com/group/sci.chem/msg/9d0b42aa196137e9
which is equally applicable to both now, China & the USA, that
== it is disgusting that these 2 powerful nations do not have the
political will to ameliorate the pain of its elderly, (the 70%...) the
very people who have paid taxes all their life long to bring their
country to that level of "Grandeur" ==...
Now to placate you, Tom, let me agree with you for another reason
which I again repeat as I have said that:
http://groups.google.com/group/sci.chem/msg/c46ecc19fb01acb0
"Tom Potter is our **Ambassador at Large ** and lives in China.
So, it is understandable that he praises the achievements of his
host country over the one he represents. That's DIPLOMACY! "

[hanson]
[A]... I think you point here to 1 case, that infamous Quinlan
situation. There are many factors to this phenomenon. But you
might have pointed to one of the fundamental reasons which
has brought the US into its current questionable condition and
into the dislike with most of the world: Your instigators, Tom!...
Naturally it's not just them but enough of them sit in plush offices

In the mean time, you might concentrate on helping kidney function. I
don't know what effect a few beers would have on eugenol in your
system, but it would increase kidney output.

[Eric]

I was also thinking a small amount of ethanol might increase liver
function, whether it be ethanol dehydrogenase or other oxidative enzymes
like cytochrome P-450, which as I understand it, is often involved in
oxidizing and detoxifying phenols and other aromatics. Not too much,
though, as that will worsen the liver damage.

ahahaha... AHAHAHA... AHAHAHA... I would call you and describe
you two guys as quacks, were you guys NOT exactly sounding like
ANY given, now practicing and licensed MD in the USA and elsewhere
in the developed world... You go to them with your big Auwee, ... They
look at it, poke in it, give it a big fancy Latin sounding "cytochromic"
name and then they say... looking you into the eyes as if they were not
able to tell even a faint fib and much less a lie: "Well, let's **try**
this:
Take 2 pills of parametazin, drink plenty water and don't touch your
injury (but they use the word "trauma" instead) and see me again
in 3 weeks. If you still have any problems we'll **try** something else."

... and that is exactly how you two guys sound. EXCEPT that you are
much nicer, implying to your cyber patients 333 here that he might as
well get gassed on whatever he has handy to relax in order to lessen
his pain.... ahahahaha....AHAHAHAHA... ahahaha...

PS: Who, in the ***** needs Doctors?... Get a doctor book or visit
any of the myriads of WebMDs'... Then have any med available OTC
at competitive international prices... and I **guarantee** you that
the public health level will IMPROVE dramatically... and leave the
MD time to take care of real emergencies and complicated cases.

As I have pointed out,
China's health care system
is much better than the Western systems.

Rather than going to a doctor's office,
you go to the hospital of your choice,

and pay one to ten dollars
to see a doctor.

The doctor takes you blood pressure,
takes your temperature,
listens to your heart,
looks at your tongue,
and discusses your symptoms.

He then prescribes additional test, if necessary,
or prescribes medicine if appropriate.

If additions tests are require,
you proceed to the testing stations,
and are promptly given blood test, EKGs,
X-rays, ultrasound, urine test, stool tests etc.

These tests typically cost one to five dollars.

The results of most tests are given to you in
a matter of minutes, and you take them back to
the doctor, he looks them over,
and prescribes medicine or more tests
as required.

The medical industry doe not have a monopoly
on good medicine, and most medicines
can be bought over the counter very cheaply.

In additions to Western medicines and methods,
the Chinese have a number of medicines that
are much better than Western medicines.

Vitamins are also very cheap.
For example, yesterday, I bought a bottle
of 100 B-complex vitamins for about $1.50.

Chinese are also very health conscious.
Unlike Westerners, who eat sandwiches
with their hands after touching money,
the Chinese cook fresh food at high temperatures,
serve it immediately, and avoid touching the food
with their hands, and after handling money,
they tend to wash their hands.

How is this tacit diatribe against US medicine remotely relevant?

ahahaha... AHAHAHA... Eric, Eric,.. you must understand that
Tom Potter is our **Ambassador at Large ** and lives in China.
So, it is understandable that he praises the achievements of his
host country over the one he represents. That's DIPLOMACY!
ahahaha... OTOH, Tom could have also referred to China's
ancient healthcare system during and before the Han Dynasty
where you paid the doctors to keep you healthy and if you
got sick they had to pay you... ahahaha... ahahanson

Are you suggesting that Coca Cola, coffee, Twinkies, and hamburgers
are not a proper diet?
