It is only these insane scaremongers who wish to stop the
construction of coal fired plants that will bring the power situation
to this critical level, just as happened in the California energy
crisis. .
Whatever happened to the promised benefits of de-regulation which was
used manipulate the energy crisis into a profitable enterprise for
Enron?

Even with a huge reserve capacity, the random occurrence
of a lot of motors starting at the same time, along with a lot of
water heaters calling for heat at the same time can shut down
a branch of the grid.
E-on asked customers here to allow some type of controller,
I don't think the power company had any control over it though, it
just was set to enable an A/C to start when the second hand is
at a certain number, and all the controllers are synchronized.
Sure, inadequate capacity worsens the situation, but if
technology can reduce the likelihood of a blackout, bring it on.
It was voluntary here though, and I did not participate,
I don't have central air, and my water heater rarely turns on,
it is set as low as possible, and when there could be a possible
power problem, I turn off the water heater and all window A/Cs
except one.
