America must boost its investment in particle physics if it is to stay
at the forefront of the discipline. That is the conclusion of a National
Academy of Sciences panel charged with recommending priorities for US
particle physics over the next 15 years. The panel believes that the
"intellectual centre of gravity" within the field is moving abroad and
that, as things stand, within a few years most American experimental
particle physicists will be working at facilities overseas.

Will someone *please* tell me why we decommissioned the Superconducting
Supercollider again?
:-)
Especially since completing it then allowing it to sit there would have
been cheaper??
(Ye gods.)

bad marketing. just tell president bush and his stupid evangelical stooges
that you need this machine to search for the "god particle"
(aka higgs boson) and you will get all the money you need.
don't laugh, i have seen stupid christians get all excited when
hearing physicists are close to discovering the "god particle".
stupid, scientifically illiterate douchebags...
