A very days ago there was a post here, if laws of physics evolved. It could,
if in order for that to be true, you are required to put their faith into
laws as having life, or 'laws' as some form of 'higher dimensional' life
forms.
Here's how 'life' is defined in this context: a decison maker.
For example, take books, libraries, computers, etc. Why do we have them? Why
do we build them? We build them or write books because they are necessary.
They make life easy, something along those lines. For example, many many
authors write books. However, only a few of them, become popular, or become
treasured. There are many mathematical concepts. However, the idea of
differentials, fractions, numbers is most commonly explained. In a way, the
author of the book, accepts some sort of compromise. He is restricting his
analysis to certain kinds of problems, or presenting problems for certain
kinds of readers. In this whole process, he is making decisions, or
estimating what is appropriate for the reader. The readers ,in turn, do the
same thing. They reader book by many authors on the subject. They find the
author, or try to stick to author, who is the clearest. Over time, you
would have emergence. Authors who explain things clearly become popular.
Authors, who can relate to large degree of audiences, without compromising
the subject become popular.
In a way, there is like a predator-prey game. Evolution requires this game.
Predators evolve to hunt preys and preys evolve to elude predators. They
both are decision makers, in changing their forms.
Certainly, if you can make 'a law of physics', a conscious object, decision
making block, surely, laws could evolve, by competition and by mating.

In a way, living things build the universe. Concidentally, in the rig vedas,
written thousands of years ago, Lord Vishnu is described as ,the ruler of
the universe, of 4d space-time. It's funny. Supposedly he is the one who
prevades and who is one and one with local space with 3 dimensions of space,
1 time.
It's interesting to look at human beings, who are beings built of of large
chains of hydro carbons. In a way, what kind of purpose, if they have any ,
would they serve.

Title: Most probably absolute . 20 Feb 2004 03:08:06 AM
Hi The Lord of Chaos (Suresh Devanathan),
Re: Our role in " Building the universe " , you asked,
" what kind of purpose, if [ we ] have any ,
would [ we ] serve " .
Because material determinism is most probably absolute,
The universe just is. It's static.
Time is actually spatial, a spatial dimension ...
It's a timescape.
It only seems otherwise due to incomplete information.
The higher an object's momentum,
the easier it is for us to track it.
so it seems less random to us.
For example,
the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation seems static,
while quanta seem much more random ( dynamic ) .
Just like all randomness is merely notional,
so too is all liberty.
So we only have notional liberty,
notional existence, notional gods ... etc. .
Sure,
all the many trivial choices you have looks like freedom,
but what Real choices do you have ?
Did you decide to be born ?
Can you decide to live an active life
much beyond 72 years ?
Can you decide to not breath and yet still live ?
.
