US scientists have been transformed into cheap whores as nearly the
whole of the US Federal budget has been redirected towards massive
corruption (Gulf War II), massive corruption (Homeland Security),
massive corruption (Welfare), massive corruption (Medicare)...
Certain sacrifices had to be made. Physical science is being
vigorously outsourced.

Much of the funding for things like NASA is a jobs program for
scientists. There are better ways to spend public money than giving
guys like Glenn another ride.
Energy research comes to mind. INcrfeased funding for cancer. There's
lots of science that could be done where should it be sucessful the
general good would be really advanced. Sending robots ot Mars isn't
such a general good, but it sure leads to good paying jobs for some
folks, doesn't it?

I dunno bout dat Uncle Al -
According to my data, tobacco smoke actually triples lifespan among infants
who smoked 3-packs per day, but only those who also drank heavily.
I wont mention that I work for a large tobacco company.
