France is in some ways an opposite story from Russia. In Russia,
Religion almost disappeared under communism. In France, Religion has
almost disappeared under the capitalist-socialist-communist mixture,
but it has reappeared in a very angry form in Islamists.
Moslems/Muslims are officially 8% of the French population, but
unofficially government officials have estimated them as 10%.
What has not disappeared from France is Greed-Materialism. It might be
thought that if Russian scientists could detach themselves from
Materialism, then so could French scientists. But French drink wine
instead of water. They are not merely Greed-Materialists but
Sensation-Materialists in sex and anger. Add to that a very angry
Moslem population which does not usually believe in integration and a
policy of appeasement of dictators that went back far before the Vichy
French welcome of Hitler - back to the days of Charles Dickens' A Tale
of Two Cities.
The Russians appeased Hitler too at the beginning, but then so did the
U.K. and USA, but all of them knew how to stop. The French didn't
know how. It's a matter of learning inhibition. We see it in modern
universities/colleges in the USA, where the word "inhibition" is
probably one of the least used words in the English language. Had the
French learned from India or Nepal, they might have had a chance. But
to learn from Islamist nations and Africa South of the Sahara is
suicidal.
The French and USA don't have Physics or Mathematics. They have,
rather, Policies. Like the USA and to a fair extent the U.K., which
have Algebraic Geometry and Algebraic Topology and
Production-Sales-Optimization as their Policies, France has
Computerized Production-Sales-Optimization and Noncommutative Geometry
as Policies.
