Shiny metal cubes |
Hi there, I got to this group googling for cubes. I am looking to get
some feedback on the ones that I make. I sculpt them from stainless
steel using only hand tools (no fancy equipment) and would appreciate
some ffedback on them if anyone is interested. Many thanks in advance.

Prefer Copper myself but perhaps that's not good for the birds.

I draw can attest to the difficulty in making real art. I currently
work hard to get proportion to be correct.
Here is a personnel advice as to my usage of cubes and maybe it is
close to your ideas.
A set of three cubes to cause the image is a certain set. Selective
placement allows a multitude of perspective to be exemplified.
And to allow the set as the three appears the hard task. How to size?
Here is my suggestion:
1: Make the smallest the unit size.
2: Make the second the size of the focal.
3: Allow the third to be a place in the focal.
So the second cube is to make the depth of field. And the stacking
means it is limited to the cube top size as to the depth of field.
So the exact second cube is a certain size. And it allows arraingment.
2: The second cube must be about three fifths or 1/ three fifths in
size!
3: the third cube as the bottom is only an idea. At the top the
largest cube would obey perspective just as well. And I suggest three
times the smallest cube size as the edge length of the third cube.
So the ratios are;
1
1.666667
3
And so the perspective stack is allowed with proper sizing.
What do you think?
Thanks Doug

To be honest doug all i do is make a selection of differnet sizes and
then match them to see what looks the best to my eye, I had never
looked into it with the depth that you have now you have given me food
for thought that there might be something I am not doing that I could
be doing that would enhance my cubes but I am not mathamatical enough
to understand it. So all I can say is that I try to make them as true
as possible rather than the overal perspective of them. Thanks for
looking at them and commenting.
