What would happen if a

It would run far too slowly to be playable. Also, I'm not sure how you'd
interact with it.
If it'd be run with parallel computers where the processing powers
can be added without limit, it is playable. About how to interact with
it. What are those guys doing with virtual reality helmets in which
they can immerse in the virtual environment...
Are there researchers (physicists/programmers combo) who
makes such programs to study and watch the virtual
environments evolve and grow?
Yes. An example of numerical GR is in the news right now:

And numerical QFT was in the news last year:

How do we know we are not inside this program?
We don't, of course. This is not a new observation. :-)

What's the proof that events prior to 1900 actually happened.
Why 1900? Why not 2006? Or 2007, for that matter?
Yeti: We live only one real day, during which we recall
false memories of living many more.
David: Is it today?
Yeti: No.

What if historical records and materials were just created and displayed
to make us believe the past actually happened.
Then unless we can discover the subterfuge, we're helpless. There's nothing
you can do against a perfect deceiver. There's no point worrying about it.
There's another way. The Big Bang could really have happened. But
instead of being billions of years ago. It could have occured just
a few decades or centuries. How, the super-civilization super
computer could just fast forward the Big Bang simulations to reach
the present billions of times faster. Remember the 20,000 A.D.
folks are using computers 10 raised to 10000000000000 faster than
the fastest computers now.
What if we are now actually in 20,000 A.D. inside a simulation software
being studied by a super-civilization??
It's not clear why they'd bother. Unless, of course, they're evil flying
robots and they're using our bodies as an energy source. That would make sense.
No. Maybe the future robots couldn't have sex because they don't have
organs and their orifice are so hard and any frictions could damaged
their structural integrity. So instead of upgrading their bodies. They
created the computer simulations where they can watch and even
inject inside them to experience sex and even the pure adrenalin
of blood and violence. In the moment when the rapists or passionate
lovers consumate. They can mind lock with them to experience
the ecstasy. Also when Hitler men are butchering the Jews, they
could be feeling the high. Did you notice that violence is the norm
in the history of our civlizations without let up and always being
provoked by outside agencies.. the robots or equivalent heartless
beings could causing them directly for their entertainment by
directly influencing the outcome of the simulations.
Back to the Big Bang. The constants of nature are so calibrated that
even changes in a tiny parameter can make the universe empty and void.
This is why some scientists proposed there are many parallel universes
and our universe just so happens to be in the right condition for life.
Now. What is more likely, parallel universes or the fact our
universe is designed this way by super-civilizations who for
all intent and purposes can be consider Gods.
Parallel universes or special design. Occam's razor. It's special
design. It explains the constants of nature being so calibrated for
our existence. The super-civilizations could have inputted in
the program the following:
The laws of physics in the virtual environment must obey General
Covariance without any priveleged frame of reference. This is
born Special and General Relativity. To be interactable and not
deterministic, the laws of the small must follow the rule of
probability and statistics. So is born Quantum Mechanics, etc.
What do you think?
Do you notice we have so many folks who can't even take
Relativity because it's so out of this world like Hexenmeister,
spacement, Pencho, etc. and folks, on the other end of
the spectrum who have to think up of newtonian versions of them
(the majority of the cranks here). If GR and QM is a rule of the
program designed by super-civilizations (or Gods). Then they make
perfect sense.
If so, we can justify the "shut up and calculate" interpretations
of QM and GR. Some people search for a lifetime to see what
is behind them. What if the ultimate truth is not so nice. Maybe
Ignorance is Bliss... that is, being aware of the robots agenda for
us can be demoralizing. But when we don't mind them and just
live one day at a time inside the simulations. Then we can
enjoy what little freedom we have which normal life can bestow.
Einstein wasted the last 30 years of his life searching for truth.
Had he live normal life. He could have accepted the invitation
of being president of Israel and exerted his will over the
political and social policies of the planet (or simulations).
