A smart friend of mine made the following analogy :
Lets imagine a wooden beam lying on two trestles. A guy is at one end
with one ear stuck to the beam tip. Another guy hits the other beam
tip with a hammer. If the shock is small, the guy ear will hear the
sound wave. If the shock is too high, the beam will be displaced, and
the guy receives the shock !!
