Speed Limit Theory |
Dear Physics Gurus,
Traveling along highways or in cites we regulary miss speed limit
signs, so I was wondering how much extra work plus hardware is need so
that traffic signals transmit radio signals which car interpretates and
display them in the radio data display as Information of the current
speed limit value,
in future if someone exeeds the limit , car registration number is
tranmitted by car to nearest reciver hooked up with police radio
.

It would take quite a few years for all cars to have radio data
displays and transponders.
There is a political issue here which supercedes the technical issue:
there is no consensus for a zero-tolerance crackdown on speeding,
especially not if speed limits are not raised from where they are
todaay. The current speed limits are in fact set far below what the
maximum safe speed would be under ideal conditions. Aside from the
occasional spot check, the speeding laws are currently applied only
when conditions are less than ideal, or in response to a spate of
accidents, or as something to get an unsafe driver on, or as a pretext
for stopping motorists who may be breaking other laws, etc.

Yes Ive thought of this exact thing before. It is the only way to go for
safe motoring in the long run.
The car would have a speed governor that prevents it from exceeding the
local speed.
Somebody needs to design and build this system.
And then sell it internationally.
Would need to sell it to local government authorities.
Some country would implement it eventually. And others would folllow once
they see the savings in road deaths.
In addition to systems to prevent a driver starting a car if above an
alcohol limit( these systems are already available) road fatalities would be
cut to about 10% of current rates.
Civil liberties idiots would of course object but implementing it is a job
for the politicians
