In many Hamiltonian for particles with spin, the expression
(sigma p) appears, where sigma=( sigma_x, sigma_y, sigma_z )
is a vector built from the three spin matrices, and
p= ( p_x, p_y, p_z ) is momentum.
What is the interpretation of the scalar product (sigma p) of the
two?
What does it represent?
Thanks!
