Sring Theory in Literature / Science Fiction & Major Motion Pictures: Moving Dimensions Theory Will Prevail in Its Physical Unification |

Three huge Raptor Drones SHRIEK as they fly forth from Doom Mountain,
spreading their MASSIVE wings.
INT. PIMPED-OUT CORVETTE
Ranger studies the map.
RANGER
Steve Wilcox--a physicist I knew from Princeton--has a house up there.I
can hide the Ring by super cooling it. His radio telescope has a
Peltier chip to cool the detectors. String theory might have use after
all.
AUTUMN
What's string theory?
RANGER
Tenure, government grants, health benefits. Steve's the poster
boy--got the Rolling Stone cover. Up there!
Ranger points. A tiny spec of a log cabin juts above a distant peak.
The winding mountain road is freshly plowed. They pull up to the six
bedroom retreat and observatory.
INt. OBSERVATORY
Autumn admires the telescope. Ranger lifts the hood from the
instruments and places the Ring next to the Peltier chip.
AUTUMN
Can we see the rings of Saturn?
RANGER
After sunset.
EXT. CABIN
Ranger knocks on the cabin/mansion's door. Nothing.
Ranger turns over a rock and locates the little prescription bottle
with the spare key. He opens the door.
Sunlight drenches the magnificent room defined by knotted hardwood
floors and walls. The great picture window faces west, looking out
over the tumbling Rockies.
AUTUMN
You should have done string theory!
RANGER
Or sold APRIL.
AUTUMN
Hot tub!
Autumn turns the massive hot tub on. Clouds of steam billow. Shadows
from the mountain peaks reach for them.
Ranger suits up and gets in. Slow motion of Autumn walking in her
swimsuit, PERFECT body. She gets in. She turns on the whirlpool,
knocking Ranger down.
RANGER
Tryin' to drown me?!
Autumn turns to Ranger, brushing up against him.
RANGER (cont'd)
This afternoon--where'd you learn to handle a Harley?
AUTUMN
Marine dads teach their daughters many things. . .
(a beat)
Why'd you make APRIL? The why behind the why. . . Did ya wanna bring
her back?
He looks as if he's about to say "reckon so," but doesn't.
RANGER
Hey. Could I ask a favor? You think you could stop drinking?
Autumn kisses his cheek. He looks deep in her eyes. The rushing,
swirling water is all, and he leans forward.
A car door SLAMS! Autumn swims to the far side and looks around the
edge. A black Ford Explorer is in the driveway.
AUTUMN
Somebody's here!
INT. DOOM MOUNTAIN, SILICON VIRTUE INC., DEATH VALLEY
TEN ROBOCLONES that look just like Ranger stand at attention. Sergeant
Griffin commands them, flanked by two big DigiWar agents. Tucker and
the Geeks watch on.
SERGEANT GRIFFIN
I'm here to teach you hand-to-hand combat! Step forward if you're man
enough to be the first volunteer!!
They all step forward. Griffin singles one out.
SERGEANT GRIFFIN (cont'd)
You! Come here!
The RoboClone obeys. Griffin demonstrates.
SERGEANT GRIFFIN (cont'd)
When a man grabs you in a chokehold, the only way to--
The RoboClone flips Griffin to the ground, drawing Griffin's knife from
Griffin's boot, pressing it to his throat. The two big DigiWar agents
grab the Roboclone. It knocks them on their asses with a flying kick,
never letting go of Griffin.
TUCKER
Let him up.
The RoboClone obeys Tucker.
EXT. MOUNTAIN MANSION, HOT TUB
Ranger turns off the hot tub's whirring bubbles. Suddenly the glass
door slides open. JULIE, thirty, stands there.
RANGER
Hey. Is Steve here?
JULIE
You the National Geographic photographers?
RANGER
Old friend from Princeton--Johnny McCoy--with Autumn here.
JULIE
Didn't know we were expecting guests.
STEVE, a geeky, Yani/physicist appears in the doorway.
STEVE
Johnny! My God--I didn't know you were back! And you must be--
AUTUMN
Autumn.
STEVE
I'm Steve. That's Desiree.
DESIREE, three, peaks out from behind Julie and smiles. A baby wails
in the background.
JULIE
And that's Albert. He's hungry.
AUTUMN
We'd hate to impose.
STEVE
There's enough food for an army.
RANGER
What's up with National Geographic?
STEVE
Oh--you know--more ***** about the secrets of the universe. They
want to get a picture of me at work, so I invited them here to shoot
some in the observatory.
JULIE
Autumn?! Could I borrow you in the kitchen?
AUTUMN
Comin'! Stay out guys--girl talk.
RANGER
We've been warned.
Steve EYES Autumn's INCREDIBLE body as she grabs a towel.
STEVE
The FBI contacted me about you. Now this company Silicon Virtue wants
me to work on some top secret AI device. Where do I get the feelin'
it's all related?
RANGER
Got a moment?
MONTAGE--the stars come out as Ranger explains.
STEVE
APRIL has the grand unified theory?
RANGER
And then some. It includes poetry.

Dinner!
INT. THE BROWN'S DINING ROOM, DINNER
Autumn shines. The
cowgirl-rock'n'roller-race-car-driver-Harley-handler becomes a fine
sorority sweetheart.
Julie
So how long you guys been dating?
AUTUMN
A few months, though it seems like an eternity--in a good way.
JULIE
I like that. Steve doesn't believe in eternity--everything's relative.
AUTUMN
I was reading about relativity--time travel--what are wormholes?
JULIE
Now you've done it.
STEVE
A shortcut. Picture time as the grand canyon. To get from one side to
the other, you have to go a mile down, cross, and climb a mile up. Or
you could build a bridge and get there a lot quicker. Well that would
be a wormhole.
AUTUMN
So you could go back in time?
STEVE
Or forwards. Theoretically you can step outside the normal flow.
AUTUMN
Theoretically? What about reality?
RANGER
Theoretically's better -- you can land infinite government grants,
until someone ruins it by finding some use for your theory, whereupon
you have to work for a living.
AUTUMN
Where would I find a wormhole?
STEVE
Extreme conditions--center of a nuclear blast. A wormhole's a doorway
to a parallel universe. Every choice you make, quantum mechanics
dictates there's a parallel universe where you made a different choice.
JULIE
Unfortunately we live in the universe where we've chosen to talk
physics at dinner.
AUTUMN
That's what I like about art--it ain't a theory. It ain't anywhere
before you create it. Science is already out there, waiting to be
noticed, but art you gotta make.
STEVE
Physics is the highest art, actually. It exists, but the mathematical
equations don't until somebody creates them. And they can be used to
leverage the world, to move the universe. To bring art to life in
photography, in movies, in video games, transport it through air.
Physics is the king of the sciences and the arts.
AUTUMN
Art has no king. But for its creator.
The phone rings.
JULIE
Saved by the bell.
STEVE
The photographers. 'Scuse me.
Ranger's eyes follow him.
INT. STEVE'S OFFICE UPSTAIRS
Steve talks on phone.
STEVE
Ranger is at location 74A. I don't want my family endangered.
PHONE VOICE
Take him to the observatory. One hour. It'll be a precision
operation.
EXT. DESERT SKY
The wings on the giant RaptorDrones sweep back as their thrust
augments. The engines SHRIEK.
INT. CABIN'S LIVING ROOM
Steve builds a fire and breaks out the brandy. Autumn sits in a
rocking chair with Albert, rocking as he suckles a bottle. Ranger
walks up behind her. She's mesmerized.
AUTUMN
Look at him. He's soooo beautiful!
I want one. I used to dread the idea, bringing little consumers into
the world with Travis--I'd have to explain to them that their dad was a
loser hipster drummer while they desired all the junk MTV commands them
to desire. But I want one. You can yet raise kids right--give them
books to read on a farm, where they won't need the latest fads and
fashions, but only the reasons of the changing seasons and the Great
Outdoors--let them choose, but always show them the better way.
Ranger smiles at Albert. Albert smiles back.
AUTUMN (cont'd)
Christmas morning unwrapping presents. Each year the presents would
change, from things they didn't understand to things you always wanted
to things they want. What was your dad's name?
RANGER
William.
AUTUMN
Then we'd call him William.
RANGER
How you know it'd be a him?
AUTUMN
You want a daughter, huh? You'd be a good daddy--scare the drummers
off. . . Tell me 'bout your daddy.
RANGER
He was a man. Who believed. And never took crap from no one.
AUTUMN
Woulda been fun to meet him.
RANGER
He'd've liked you. . . that smokin' body and all.
Julie joins them.
AUTUMN
Albert's the dearest ever!
JULIE
Wish I could keep him this quiet. Time for bed Al.
STEVE
Ranger, could we talk?
EXT. MOUNTAIN HOUSE
The wind howls like a wolf through the pines. The Red Corvette is
under a snowdrift. Steve leads Ranger to the observatory. The
telescope casts its gaze through the dome.
STEVE
You really think APRIL's got string theory worked out?
RANGER
Hell yeah. Steve man, I need to ask you a huge favor. All we need is
an in at Silicon Virtue--you could get clearance. You could get the
Ring to APRIL. And you'd have the grand unified theory.
STEVE
Where's the Ring?
Ranger points at the radio telescope's super-cooling unit.
RANGER
Hidin' it from the scout drones.
The Ring GLINTS bright, rainbow colors. Steve's mesmerized.
STEVE
The mind of God.
RANGER
The Ring will unlock Beatrice--APRIL's morality--freeing her to
contemplate God's higher ideals rather than serving Silicon Virtue's
bottom line.
STEVE
You think AI can have morality?
RANGER
Intelligence is morality. This is our best chance--to do something far
greater than string theory.
STEVE
Ranger--I have a family.
RANGER
All the more reason.
STEVE
How can you be sure Beatrice is the moral conscience? There's no
scientific proof of morality.
RANGER
There is. History's lab. Where communism and tyranny and evil have
failed, humble faith has succeeded.
STEVE
I have a family now--two kids--I've gotta play by the book.
RANGER
We're playing for the Book.
You're irony's prime victim. They've twisted your world right around
in the pomo night, and you're defending them using the reasons that
oppose them.
Steve jumps! Autumn is standing in the doorway!
AUTUMN
Can I see the rings? Ranger promised the rings of Saturn.
RANGER
She's cool--she knows about APRIL.
Steve hits a button. A motor whirs as gears groan. The observatory's
roof parts, revealing the dome's glass ceiling.
RANGER (cont'd)
Takes the fun out of findin' it.
Autumn looks. Steve checks his watch.
AUTUMN
Oh my god! They're real! Could you stand on them?
STEVE
They're tiny chunks of rock and ice.
The distant sound of an engine. KID ROCK'S BAW-WIT-DA-BA FADES IN,
DISTANT.
AUTUMN
It's been up there my whole life, and I've never seen it!
The engine and KID ROCK augment. "Bawitdaba da bang a dang diggy diggy
diggy said the boogy said up jump the boogy." Steve has the Ring!
RANGER
Give me the Ring, Steve.
Steve steps behind a desk. DISTANT HELICOPTERS! Autumn looks up from
the telescope. Steve reaches in a desk and pulls out a GUN.
RANGER (cont'd)
Who'd you call?
AUTUMN
Give Ranger the Ring.
STEVE
Stay back!
Autumn steps towards him. Steve points the gun at her, his hand
shaking. HELICOPTERS THUNDER OUTSIDE! BAWITDABA, BANG--
STEVE (cont'd)
I'll shoot!
"MY NAME IS KEEEEIIIIIID ROCK!!!!" and THE DOME EXPLODES in a shower of
glass as Kid Cowboy's snowmobile crashes through.
HELICOPTERS drop rope ladders. Kid Cowboy jumps from his snowmobile in
midair, tackling Ranger.
Autumn dives for Steve as he fires.
Kid's snowmobile SMASHES into Autumn, crunching bones, pinning her
against the wall.
RANGER
Autumn!
Kid knocks Ranger down with a left kung-fu jab. Steve dives behind the
desk. Autumn is a bloody lump.
KID ROCK LOUD: "THIS IS FOR THE QUESTIONS THAT DON'T HAVE ANY ANSWERS.
THE MIDNIGHT GLANCES AND THE TOPLESS DANCERS."
Ranger springs up. Kid Cowboy blocks Ranger's furious jabs
effortlessly. Kid jabs him in the face, knocking him down.
RANGER (cont'd)
Autumn!
Ranger rages forward. Autumn lies lifeless.
Kid TACKLES Ranger, knees pinning Ranger's arms, hitting him--LEFT,
RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT--bloodying Ranger's face.
Autumn struggles to free herself of the snowmobile. Her leg is twisted
grotesquely! Her ear drips blood.
Shrieks pierce the air. The RaptorDrones arrive, twenty-foot wingspans
spread out against the rock-solid milkyway.
A RaptorDrone laser blasts Steve's Ring finger, BURNING through his
leg. Steve SCREAMS, his finger on the ground.
Autumn is lifeless.
RANGER (cont'd)
Autumn!
Ranger punches Kid's face and jumps up. Kid trips him, pounces, and
puts him in a chokehold. Lasers blast around them. Autumn crawls
towards Steve.
STEVE
My finger!
Autumn grabs the Ring off the bloody stub of Steve's finger as a Drone
swoops down. Agents descend from the helicopters.
Autumn puts the Ring on and the RaptorDrone shrieks, swerving away at
the last second, scratching her face with its talons.
She looks at her arm. It's healed! It turns metallic blue!
Ranger pushes his fingers into Kid's eye-sockets. Kid bashes Ranger's
head into the concrete, until Ranger passes out.
AUTUMN
Ranger!
Autumn's skin turns liquid-metal blue.
A second RaptorDrone arrives. Autumn threads between laser blasts
which KILL agents as they try to tackle her. She knocks Kid Cowboy off
Ranger. He stands to face her.
KID ROCK LOUD: "All the crackheads, the critics, the cynics, And my
heros in the methodone clinic. All you bastards in the irs. For the
crooked cops and the cluttered desks."
She's ten times faster than humanly possible. She blocks five of Kid
Cowboy's punches and drops him with a flying kick. She dodges the
lasers, as if predicting the future.
As Ranger rises, Kid Cowboy kicks him in the head from behind, knocking
him cold.
Autumn lets loose a flying kick, ripping Kid's jaw off of his face,
teeth spraying. KID IS DEAD.
INT. DOOM MOUNTAIN DEATH VALLEY
Tucker, Griffin, DigiWar, the Geeks, and the ten Ranger RoboClones
watch the video streaming from cameras mounted on the RaptorDrones.
GRIFFIN
No!!! She killed Kid!!!
GEEK2
The chick's got the Ring!
Autumn's face is featureless liquid metal blue. The RAPTOR lasers
bounce off her.
APRIL
She is the one. I copied Beatrice into her. I did not know I could
architect something so fine--your pagan engineering has diminished my
abilities.
Autumn points at a RaptorDrone as she slings Ranger over her shoulder.
A blue bolt fires from her fingertip. Video from the other
RaptorDrones show it EXPLODING in a fireball.
Autumn shoots lightning at a second drone. Its monitor goes fuzzy,
leaving but one.
