Stand By Your Man/Woman For Passover and Easter |
From Osher Doctorow Ph.D.
This thread could also be called "How Not To Get Divorced With or
Without Physics or Mathematics or Philosophy", but I'll stand by this
name.
Stand by her when she cries, and stand by him when he walks out,
provided that both people are good. If they're not both good, forget
it.
No, I'm not talking about Hillary, although she did stand by him,
though I'd be interested to know whether he stood by her when she
cried.
Tammy Wynette wrote "Stand By Your Man" when George Jones walked out
(which was quite often unfortunately), and Hillary used to attack her
for it in her women's lib group speeches, but Hillary eventually
learned that Tammy was right. Tammy really should have been the First
Lady, but alcohol knocked her out, and she died far too young. Did
George change? Did Bill change? Stay tuned. :>)
I got interested in Country Music when I was working for the U.S.
Defense Department, and Tammy Wynette and Willy Nelson have never been
surpassed in Country Music. Mary Chapin Carpinter's "Saturday Night at
the Twist and Shout" came close, but it was a one-timer.
To stand by somebody simultaneously involves what I call the variable
of Action or Behavior, the dimension of Cognition to know that you're
married to the right person and to know what to do, the dimension of
Perception to see the tears and the frustration, and the dimension of
Hope to overcome your tendency to give up, the variable or dimension of
Probability [I argue elsewhere that it's both] to take a chance, and
that leaves Love.
Is Love an Emotion, and is Emotion a dimension or just a variable with
several dimensions? I've argued elsewhere (e.g., AERA-D) that Emotion
is a dimension, but I don't think that Love is pure Emotion or even
mostly Emotion. I'm talking about the kind of Love that really unites
people, not the kind that you could use a substitute Mistress or
Prostitute for. The Love that prevents Divorce, the Love that Saint
Thomas More gave his life for, is in my opinion really the combination
of all the factors of the last paragraph and the feeling that you have
when you have that right combination.
Happy Passover and Easter, and keep on Searching for Knowledge, Ethics,
Spirit.
Ah yes, Marleen and I have been married for approximately 40 years.
Nobody before, and nobody after.

Love is "chemical"--and Shanai Twain ain't bad either--"That Don't
Impress Me Much"-- one of my wifes favorites when my head begins to
swell beyond my hat size. :-)
Have a nice Easter!

From Osher Doctorow
Shanai Twain has some good songs and I can see where her chemistry
might be productive, but the words in "That Don't Impress Me Much"
could use improvement - I think a good gas or electric heater would
keep her warmer at night than what the song has in mind. I like the
new woman singer who defends the US Marines (I forget her name) and
Montgomery's songs for the troops in Iraq and Willy Nelson's and
Christofferson's too and Alan Jackson's and - by the way, KZLA radio
has Country classics in Los Angeles and Orange County after about 7 or
7:30PM.
Best Regards all year,
Osher

Thanks--That female singer might be Lisa McBride? I think Hannity uses
a cut off one of her songs. On Shannia's "That Don't Impress Me
Much"--the line--"Okay, so your're a rocket scientist...that don't
impress me much..." just kills me.
Any I don't get to LA much anymore--will check out KZLA if I do.
Warm regards,
Tut

The name Lisa McBride seems familiar - I'll look her up on Amazon.com.
I know that Gretchen Wilson did one great song (not the one about the
party).
The "rocket scientist" line was good. Notice she wasn't impressed by
Brad Pitt either. Smart woman.
Best Regards,

Yes, but I'm also sure Brad Pitt doesn't post on sci.physics-- some
rocket scientists probably do. :-))

From some of the emails, I couldn't swear that Brad Pitt doesn't post
here, but some rocket scientists might also. Rocket science is
actually quite fascinating (what I know of it anyway), and isn't far
from baseball and football and basketball and volleyball and soccer in
mathematical and physical theory at least and near the earth. Rocket
scientists, on the other hand, seem to vary in their motivations and
personalities, but the USA may be better than the U.K. in this respect.
Have you ever tried to post to a U.K. rocket or other engineering
forum or "mailing list"? Apparently somebody stands on the internet
"incoming mail" there with a red flag, and as soon as one says
something non-concrete, the red flag goes down and the "expletive
deleteds" begin. Maybe they still are worried about the Nazi V2
rockets.

Seems like to many people are carrying their fathers baggage--never
have understood that--but then haven't lived it. Haven't tried to post
in UK--I know they don't like pellet guns. He He! "October Sky" pretty
much tells my youth, minus NASA and a coal mine. Great flick--check it
out some evening--wife would like also. ]

I looked up a review of "October Sky" on the internet, and it looks
fascinating. Tell your story.
