I've been trying to understand the second paragraph on page 4-3 of
Feyman's Lectures on Physics. I'm having a hard time visualizing the
situation he is describing. First he says, "Then we could lower the
weight from Y to X, obtaining free power, ..." What does he mean
lower the weight from Y to X. Does he mean lowering the balance on
the three-unit side of machine B to the level of the three-units on
machine A or those he literally mean removing some weight from Y and
putting it on machine A at X? And how did we obtained free power?
Also, towards the end of this paragraph he says, "This will put the
one-unit weight back where it was before, and leave both machines
ready to be used again!" I can't seem to understand what he means by
"both machines ready to be used again!"

If you know so much, why don't you explain to me in detail the example
I'm trying to understand?

Draw some diagrams... apply the mathematics... then read Feynman again.
