The Grand LITS o' Hate |
Fun, fun, fun! Someone from alt.usenet.kooks has set up a webpage
where you can search through the Kook Awards to find out what awards
your favorite kooks have won. And you can also use it to see that none
of the so-called "crackpots" of sci.physics who were among the top 40
posters there in 2004 have yet won a single award:

Not one measly award for your most hated "crackpots." Read 'em and
weep, sci.physics.
You have to go pretty deep in the crackpot lists before you see any
awards. Most of the awards have been for people who have simply made
themselves hated everywhere on Usenet. Others, like James "Spaceman"
Driscoll, are less conspicuous posters with small awards.

But there is at least one recognized Net.Kook who often posts to
sci.physics, although he has managed to avoid getting on any of the
crackpot lists. And now you can look him up yourself.

For the purposes of this post, a so-called crackpot is defined as
someone who is listed as such in the works of either "Old Man," Van de
Moortel, Wormley, or Stepp. Their inclusion of someone you do not
consider a crackpot, or their missing someone you do, is obviously not
my problem. A combination of their lists is provided below for
reference. Only exact duplicates have been removed.

xxein: Hey! I finally made a list. It must be because I used an
incorrect gear ratio for the celestial spheres. It should have been
13.7 and not 12.8. I inadvertently applied a time dilation for the
velocity of .356470524002183c. But I caught myself before I actually
applied it. See? The spheres still work. Do I get credit for
avoiding a potential disaster? No-ooooo.
On the serious side, no one knows the "how's" or "why's" of this
universe. I don't even consider their criticism worth a grain of sand.
Certainly, some theories can be ruled out by logic, but when a logic
is formed from/through or is consistent only with a certain belief, it
is not logic --- it is belief.
Despite claims of not being afraid of "new theory", what the
'self-appointed gods' really mean is that they are not afraid of some
new discovery within their theory. They would never think of giving up
their theory that exibits so much structure. The structure "has to be
right". So they think.
Any sense of tenure (and/or self-worship) arises from the basic
structure being unchangable. They are deathly afraid of losing their
tenureship. If the top half of that structure were to be replaced by
something recognizably better, they would be lost. They simply won't
allow it to happen. They would rather fight a (losing) battle and go
down with their ship. Why 'losing'? Why do they periodically declare
an 'end of physics'?
Whenever a new theory can use a more complete objectiveness to explain
and replace old subjectiveness, it is considered a superior theory
(unless, of course, it brings fear and trepidation).
Nobody attempts to use pure and basic logic anymore. It is all past
belief in a spin-cycle. I'm glad the universe doesn't have to comply.

| xxein: Hey! I finally made a list. It must be because I used an
| incorrect gear ratio for the celestial spheres. It should have been
| 13.7 and not 12.8. I inadvertently applied a time dilation for the
| velocity of .356470524002183c. But I caught myself before I actually
| applied it. See? The spheres still work. Do I get credit for
| avoiding a potential disaster? No-ooooo.
|
| On the serious side, no one knows the "how's" or "why's" of this
| universe. I don't even consider their criticism worth a grain of
sand.
|
They would never think of giving
up
| their theory that exibits so much structure.
|
|
|

Alexa "Kook of the year 2004" Cameron uses words she doesn't understand again:
"Why is the Pentagon killing American citizens with non-lethal technology?"

Alexa "Imnotalexadammit" Cameron has problems with that extra finger
on her hand:
"Why do the Jews use the Star of David as symbolic of the Pentagon, or
Pentagram?"

Fun, fun, fun! Someone from alt.usenet.kooks has set up a webpage
where you can search through the Kook Awards to find out what awards
your favorite kooks have won.
This is one of my favourites:
http://www.insurgent.org/~kook-faq/search.php?query=Hammond
Search Results
4 matches for "Hammond".
Kook of the Month, October 2004 George Hammond
Palmjob Paddle, July 2004 George Hammond
Victor von Frankenstein "Weird Science" Award, June 2004 George Hammond
72 Raisins "Crackpot Religion" Award George "SPOG" Hammond
Strangely, you didn't include it in your LITS.
PJR :-)

Odd isn't it. I wonder how *that* could have been overlooked.
Well George?
