You are, I imagine, at least 130, so why do you mess up the group with
*****-poor prose and half-baked 'ideas'? In various guises, I have been
responsible for over a few thousand posts to wreck.org.mensa, and have
always tried to keep the recreational bit in mind! The group has now
become in your case just a silly way for silly people to say silly
things. The posters I admire are, to give the extremes, Zook and Alan
Truelove (quite a few more): at least they say what they think, even if
I think Alan an outrageous racist. I liked, when I first posted here,
the 'light blue touchpaper and retire' aspects of UncleAl, though even
he only appears nowaday in a guise, as do a few others!
Without your cheerful, chirpy 'Hi, all', the place might become a bit
more bearable. Any chance you might be moving on?

PS: Even Jack Sarfatti would post from time to time!

I personally think Stacey's sometimes-inane ramblings add to this
group.

I sincerely hope not.
As far as I'm aware, Sarfatti doesn't actually read usenet. He merely
uses it to post his lengthy half-baked drivelly essays, and never
replies to the numerous objections to his verbal diarrhea. At least
this was the case on sci.physics.

Rubbish, rubbish,
My late Partner greatly valued Jack Sarfatti's views, though describing
him as ' a flamboyant and anti-establishment character I'd like to have
a drink with', he said 'I think he is on the right track!' Like Zook, I
am not spongy in the mentals, but my partner was a chemist, physicist
and mathematician: the only thing I could beat him at was the Times
'crassword', his word for it! He hated literature because he was forced
to appear in a Shakespeare play! His favourite expression, when anyone
got excited, was 'It's only a theory, opining, sometimes, that 'There
is room for everything, absolutely everything.' I introduced him to
Russell, and his and my favourite thought/quote was 'Does the thought
require a thinker?' Apart from that, we both liked Russell's ironic
''proof'' of the will, and decided that it was in principle possible to
choose an identity in a sense deeper than fashion, but an unlikely
occurrence. The purport of some meetings we held was the possibility of
such a choice: in only a small number of cases, we concluded, could one
'deeply' switch values - 'though you either understood this or you did
not!'. [Weird, but it is a threshold: cross it and and you are or can
be another person, or even two or more persons, we often concluded. We
concluded that the arts in the very broadest sense were the chance if
you were, say, below 140 (SB) to become civilised, so that most
societies were not in any sense random but the outcome of some sort of
imposition. We both liked 'Moses and Monotheism' - for, I hope obvious
reasons! Zook would have been very cozy with us, and, of course, I
leave quite a few others out.
I do not like the EnlightenMe Entity, as spock might have called it,
and I am glad that whatever it is, well, at least I hope, it intends to
leave wreck.org.mensa. My mother would have called in a priest and thus
exorcised it! All I have done is give it a good swift metaphorical kick
up the arse!
May it be on its way! I banish the EnlightenMe. wrec.org.mensa is a
mess; cam.misc is an open group where people want to help. I like it
very much! It's about helping each other, and, Stephen, you might be,
and most of you, posing to cam.misc.
Basically, I do not like crooks, nor do I take kindly to anybody who
tries to take me for a fool simply because I am rather long-sited!

Sarfatti is either deeply cynical, or mentally ill.
Either way, the garbage he posts has no connection with reality, and
physics is after all the study of reality.

OK, finally, someone sends me a puzzle. No one has sent me a puzzle
for over a year. I've been so bored. All right, give me some time on
this one, and I'll finish it for you. My brain needs intellectual
stimulation, and puzzles are perfect for this!

Stacey, I seem to remember that it was fun for your account to wind
someone up and watch the fireworks, so to speak.

Ha! I see it has backfired on me. That's what I get for opening my
big mouth.

Below is the result of
winding up the account 'EnlightenMe'. Think about it - and the nature
of the Internet!

Well, finally someone got me going. Good job. ;) Now YOU see, that I
have a short fuse, too! And the explosion was bright enough to light
up the city.

As it happens, 'your' posts make this place a bit livelier, and I do
enjoy them!

Hmmm... that sounds like a change of heart. But... don't bite my hand
if I accept your compliment. OK... yes... I'll accept that. Thanks.
That is nice of you to say. (I thought women were supposed to be
fickle??)

you haven't been laid in years so you get your kicks trying to

Yes, I was brought up in the country...never actually pig
wrestled, but I have watched it.
Since my 18th birthday I've lived in NY City, Boston, St
Petersburg, Cape Canaveral;/Melbourne and several other urban
areas. I live in Oklahoma City, now and really like it here.
I still prefer the country in many respects. Have you ever set up
an astronomical telescope out on a hill in the back pasture,
where there were no artificial lights within visible range? It's
awesome. Have you ever walked into a store and have several
people greet you and call you by name? Have you ever driven down
a road and had numerous people wave at you because they really do
know you?

Don't be daft, Stacey! We know nothing about each other's characters or
motives or identities! Sometime back, I gave over my newsnet post to a
friend whilst my other half and I went off for a holiday! The reason
for causing opinions to swing wildly on the net is to be found in the
resolution of the Test I sent you! Very different from the Dan Brown
entertaining but nonsencical stuff, it says something about the whole
world and the dynamics that make it up! And so - have a go!

Stacey...some thinking on Dolomite8 or what ever he prefers to be
called on this newsgroup (I ain't gonna call him fool and evoke
another volcanic eruption)
Dolomite8 seems to be from England and their modes of expression
are somewhat different than those of we colonists. He probably
did really take your use of the jocular expression "fool" as an
insult instead of a camaraderie jocular expression. I understood
where you were coming from, so to speak, but it seems Dolomite
speaks a different colloquial dialect and doesn't accurately
assess some of our modes of expression.
Dolomite and chert are forms of metamorphosed limestone. I wonder
what the implications are in his choice of this as his username.

I didn't really think of this, but you're right. I need to remember
these things; not everyone is from where I'm from! It's kind of like
our term, "It's a small world." In Spanish, there is no word-to-word
translation for that. Instead, they say, "El mundo es un pa=F1uelo,"
which means in English, "The world is a handkerchief." If you said to
a Spanish-speaking person, "Es un mundo peque=F1o," they'd probably look
at you strangely.

Dolomite and chert are forms of metamorphosed limestone.

Thanks, I didn't really know what they were... never really thought to
look. But I learn something new everyday. That gives life purpose
sometimes. :)

I wonder

This is it! All 160+, we devised this as barrier test. The idea is that
!Q is not enough: you need to be able to do connected up writing and
thinking. There are two more, each more difficult than the last, though
each shorter than the last!
(1) Put the following texts into 4 groups and give rules for your
groupings.
(2) Design a simple (physical) dynamic model to illustrate the rules.
(4) eliminate the red-herring.
(1) Dictation is seen as a superb learning aid.
Dictation is out of fashion. Dictation is
back again.
(2) Photocopying a copy of a copy of a copy...

pricks. For about a week afterwards, there are
many more needle-pricks.
(5) Students complain that there is too much grammar;
teacher sets them less; later, students complain
there is not enough grammar; teacher gives them
more grammar. The cycle repeats.
(6) What a serene person!
(7) A teacher scolds a pupil for poor work. The pupil's

the buzz words. Tests are back: the National
