Dear Dr Sorentino,
I was led to discover through a geologist friend that Dr David Tyrwhtt is
one of your members. I am writing to you to muster your support to obtain
the redress of an obvious injustice.
In a coming letter to WA Premier Gallop, with copy to the Queen, I have the
intention to require for Tyrwhitt, the non attributed as yet Reward for the
Discovery of the Telfer Mine Goldfield. This represents a substantial sum of
money, which the successive WA Governments have been harbouring unlawfully.
Since David Tyrwhitt alongside his compere Ronnie Thomson, is the one who
took my very hard earned Great Sandy Desert Samples, I had entrusted for
appraisal to his Newmont Mining Corporation, to reputed Petrologist John
Borner of Kalgoorlie. He comes then under common sense that following that
initiative, the benefit of having found the Telfer Gold Mine must be put to
Tyrwhitt's credit. . All the more since John Borner was in the occurrence
only a consultant of Newmont ... Hence my coming letter to Premier Gallop!
Dr Borner told me, since we had at one time the occasion to discuss that
matter:

.... I saw your gossans samples of the Paterson Range, Telfer Mine now, well
before Tyrwhitt and Thomson went up there.
UNQUOTE
Unfortunately Dr Borner refused to put that statement down on paper, and
only wrote to me upon such request, that due to his past involvement with
Newmont, he did not want his name dragged into that sad affair.
It does not matter anyway since Tyrwhitt will certainly be pleased to
confirm this to Premier Gallop.
Indeed there is that Reward at stake for Discovery of the Telfer Mine
Goldfield! All the more since Tyrwhitt was granted an Official Document from
Newmont establishing without question his discovery of the Telfer Gold Mine,
and this can be produced anytime to the WA Government, and I can certainly
vouch that it does exist, I have seen Tyrwhitt featured with a photo of it
in the West Australian. In any case Tyrwhitt 's superior geological acumen
and beyond questioning, and this what led him to his Great Sandy Desert
Discoveries.
For your interest, just a brief historic.
Newmont of which he was the WA Manager, then later CEO until getting the
sack, was in a joint venture at the time in Kalgoorlie with WMC and Anglo
American. I had lead a party of those two to the Great Sandy Desert for 3
and 2 weeks respectfully in 1970 & 71. Over 10 000 samples were collected by
Anglo and a bit less by WMC. I promoted these shows as Copper deposits and
of course was requiring appraisal in return of having given option to the
discoveries, with of course the precious metal associated with it, as this
is usually laid on claim sheets. As you may probably know, Telfer Mine is a
quite worthy Copper mine ! At the time as well my gossans samples had also
been entrusted to Newmont Mining Pilbara Manager Bill Brook. See ?
Hence given all these circumstances it is evident that Tyrwhitt's cannot be
denied, and needs once for all to be officially honoured, plus of course
financially rewarded.
Rightly all through these years, say nearly 35, Tyrwhitt has been hailed as
a Hero of Australian Mining His fame has been built on his rare opportunism
and gallantry in consultancy of his hard won Great Sandy Desert discoveries
with Dr Borner. Further more with a rare intelligence and definitive courage
David Tyrwhitt orchestrated through 2 companies Day Dawn & Narla (Boral), a
most marvellous smoke screen to Mining Prospector Turcaud since Newmont was
disappearing all together, to reappear later once the 2 companies had proven
the Telfer Mine to sell it to Newmont. Tyrwhitt's genius in conjunction
with Newmont President Searls went still a step further, by defrauding in
the process these companies ' shareholders of billions since said companies
scuttled themselves shortly afterwards. In fact on their reports we can see
that $ 800 000 was spent on probation and the Telfer Mine claims were sold
to Newmont for $ 15 000. I have made a CD of the whole story, and this will
serve to substantiate Dr Tyrwhitt's exceptional entrepreneurship in my
coming plea to Gallop and to HRH The Queen.
Needless to say that to this day and since 35 years, I am considered as a
nobody in Australia, and Gallop confirmed this directly to me last month!
The WA Parliament has consistently and rightly so considered as superior the
claim to fame of a Great Man such as Dr David Tyrwhitt, since only opposed
to such was the ridiculous claim of an Independent Mining Prospector working
alone in the Great Sandy Desert, and further more one worthless French
Migrant to boost !!!! Obviously a mad man to dare opposing himself to the
Official Story over so many years. That Official Story supported by all WA
Parliaments since Court senior, by all the Mining Companies who benefited
from him i.e. Newmont / Newcrest / BHP, and of course by all the Corporate
Geologists involved. I have to admit to you, that at one stage there has
been a Royal Inquiry required by late Attorney General Evans in 1975, with
no statute of limitation then, but of course such a Promise as made in the
WA Parliament was never kept, and at this point of time a laugh to have
believed in such promise, demonstrating again an incorrigible gullible trust
in Her Majesty' s Justice
May I count on yours and the support of all MICA staff in lobbying the WA
Government to redress after so many years the terrible wrong done to Dr
Tyrwhitt? In my view, I feel compounded interests adjustments should be made
to compensate the loss of opportunity. Given indeed these circumstances and
the fact that 35 years have passsed since the Discovery of Telfer, this
state Government does not feel that further inquiries are justified, in any
case this is Gallop's official position.with regards to Dr Tyrwhitt.
