Title: What kind of seas should I avoid ? 16 Nov 2006 06:45:36 PM
Hi T.J., Speaking of me sailing to the Rock Islands from Seattle,
You told me something like:
Hire a crew for rock islands ? they'll pay you.
By then you'll have your 300 ton Yacht Master's license.
You can get 3 or 4 bodies on the boat by selling charter tickets
for about 50 grand.

But who's going to sail the boat for the 12 hours I'm not at the helm ?
Wouldn't they have to have Yacht Master's licenses too ?
They'd need their own PCs and Global_Star internet connections, I imagine.
How long would it take to get there ?
What kind of seas should I avoid ?

Two imaginary weeks. They are like real weeks but involve less coffee and
tend to only occur while you are in bed.

What kind of seas should I avoid ?

Well, real ones for a start.
Are you going to bring your ship along for my race against Frazir?

solas will think they do.
once at sea you set the alarms and no one is at the helm .
A bucket floating 4 miles away will set ot off and start sounding the
fog horn .
plot on the gps point to point and your just there to look out the
window anyway.
You can sail from seattle to rock islands in 20 days at 13 kt.
give it 25 days so you can go around squals and storms .
todays radar will see much better then you can
and never miss a thing .
other small vessels are doing the same thing.
I captain hit a house in florida because he went to sleep on the bridge
and the alarms were off so the ships programed plotter made the turn and
ran into the bay and knocked a house down .
he got a ticket and paid for the house .

Ok, I'll allow for 25 days, assume no one will check for multiple licenses
and remember to set the alarm.
The dial-up internet connection will be shared.
What ISP will I be using ? Web_TV ?

and, back when I had one, it got towed more often than I used it.
I commute by e-mail and FTP... and, occasionally, by foot.

One lisense is ok on yacht.
for 18 hours only the skipper neads to be on it.
I ment solas will think you were standing at the helm ,,even if you
were sleeping on the bunk behind the helm

Hi T.J., Ok, I see... When underway, a skipper must always be on-board;
but no one's going to know how long he's been at the helm
( he may have anchored recently ).
Nor will they know if he was sleeping ( with the alarm set ) or not.

I think the splashing would be a good sign.
But then again, you can always imagine an alarm and then it will go off.

Randy poe-lock..
keep looking ..offer 1/2 on your second choise .
What type of ship are you thinking of buying ?
If you want a passanger tour boat like the ones youu posted , the
insurance would be too much.
Get the 300 cabin 700 berth 408 feet roro
for 1.3 mil ,, you can insure that .
Pay it off befor you buy it randy.
$ 2300 a bike to amsterdam ..you let 700 harley bikers ,,one club or
two go to euro road trip via the roro..get a chase van to go after
busted bikes and let them use the ship to crash in if they want.
make another road trip alaska .
Just one trip should pay off a ship .
If you want a cargo ship then 1 load buys the boat.
You can bust your dumb ***** forever and never see a million bucks.
But a good brain dont nead to try too hard and a few mil is easy.
I just think your stupid.
