Object: Torch: mechanical energy in electrical energy.
I purchased a torch 2 days ago. You can recharge it by pressing handle
repeatedly. I just wonder why this torch came so late in market and why
it is not popular. It is giving light just like any other torch.
If this torch even for 1 year, I can save 25 dollars which I spend on
dry cells.
Why such torch are not popular?

The concept has been around for decades but until the invention of
efficient LED's they weren't all that practical for everyday use.

Hello,
this system is much older than you think.
I remember such
torchlights from 55 years ago. i think, it was standard equipment of the
american solders during WW2 (at least the olive color suggested this)
The difference with today is the addition of an accumulator to smooth
out the variation of current.
The old type had a handle you had to turn at an even rythm, or a
alternatively a ratchet. You stopped, you were in the dark...
