OT: Unscientific prediction: Obama wins big in California |
Based solely on the people I have spoken to personally in the past few
days, I think Obama is going to win big in California. I know several
people who were undecided until the last few days, and all of them
seem to have settled on Obama.

I'd be quite surprised if he did. I don't claim to know more than others.
I just don't see that much reason to believe that the polls predicting
that Hillary will take California in the primary are likely t be wrong.

Okay, but I'd still need more than that anecdotal information to expect as
large an upset as you are predicting.

1. Obama might win CA
2. CA will vote democrat in the general election
3. The presidency will already be decided before CA finishes voting, so
our electors won't count
4. Therefore, who cares if Obama wins CA?
To me, the only interesting voting going on in CA today is the indian
gambling measures. However, up to 1/3 of CA voters file(d) absentee
ballots, so we won't know who won anything for several days.

We care because if he will get more delegates than Hillary it makes
him more likely to become the Democratic candidate in November. Then,
as you say. the Democratic candidate will win California. The
question is, which candidate can beat the Republican in Ohio and
Florida and Illinois? Several of my friends mentioned that as an
important part of their decision. My ex-wife worried that nobody
would vote for a guy named "Obama". Not to mention a guy with the
middle name "Hussein".

This was a bad election to vote absentee. A lot of people wasted
their ballots on Edwards, Giuliani, etc.
I tell you what, it was nice for me personally to vote in a
presidential primary that still had meaning. I don't think it's ever
happened before, because I've always voted in California in June.

I actually don't think it will matter. I think McCain is going to win.

I'm wondering why no news reports have any exit info on the measures yet.

Generally, media outlets won't report exit polling numbers while the polls
are still open. This policy is voluntary but goes back a few cycles when it
was thought that a lot of California voters went home based on reports of
one guy or the other winning.
