People get the kind of gov't they deserve: the fat, lazy, stupid and useless
americans deserve a prez and congress that are just like the peep that voted
for them, corrupt and rat like by nature.
The world dreams of the day when the US sinks under its own weight and takes
the smell with them.

Yeah well...
You better stop laughing. Here in the Province of British Columbia,
Canada, the Provicial government "privatized" the Public Park System
years ago.
What has happened is, with no word of a lie, disgusting. Private
contractors bid to run the parks. As contracts come up, another
operating company will always underbid the incumbent. Then, to be able
to make money at all, they offer the employees a change to transfer to
the new company - as long as they are OK with a $2 to $5 per hour pay
cut!
It's worse! There is NO standard for the Operating Companies that says
that they have to know what the F^(**&(*K they are doing! I watched in
horror as some idiot from an operating company cut out and remove 100
years of underbrush growth in a park! When I queried him, her said "Oh
it's way too wet for the campers here, we have to get rid of this
stuff so things can dry out!" What a damn morron. He was reported to
the Government, and fired. But, as usual, the damage was done. And
since campers now walk all over the place, they beat down any new
plants that try to grow. It is likely that nature will never be able
to repair the damage unless the park is closed for some period of time
(read: 10 years or more).
And as successive companies kept flipping the operation of the parks,
the employees who were paid less and less could evntually be paid no
less by law! So what then? fire people. It is now to the point where
park fees are higher than ever, and there is NO ONE to enforce the
rules.
Before privatization, there were Park Rangers who had university
degrees or at least a modicum of experience. Part time summer help was
in thte form of Silvaculture students from local universities - who at
least had a clue as to what they should and should not do!
And to agrivate the situation, the Provicial Government stopped
providing fire wood for free. Now they charge $6 for a tiny bundle
that would barely fuel a 30 min fire. So what do people do??? They
hack down the trees! Oh it is against the rules of course. But there
is almost no one there to enforce the rules! When we used to have Park
Rangers, ther patrols were every hour - more frequent on busy
weekends. And if someone was breaking the rules, they were asked to
leave. If they did not leave, they were arrested, charged, and their
stuff was removed. We NEVER had a problem before privatization.
As someone who has camped in these parks since I was 4 (so for the
last 40 years), I can honestly say that I foresee the demise of the
parks within my lifetime. While greedy fat-cat governments line their
pockets, they are looking for a way to rape the parks of the clean
water and old-growth timber. To that end, they have set in place a
process whereby parks are no longer afordable for the average person,
and they parks are slowly on the road to ruin. Soon, the cost to stay
will be prohibative, and the conditions will be totally unacceptable
to even veteran campers. At that point, it is my prediction that some
crooked politician - likely one with ties to the lumber industry -
will suggest dismantling the parks. And the government will have a
tidely little payoff in place, so they will find a way to ignore the
public and will ram it all down our throats.
Pardon my rant. What is the point you say??? My point is this: The
politicians here tried privatization. "It seemed like a good idea at
the time." IMHO, it has failed. My advice to any of you who care even
a little about your parks is DO NOT PERMIT PRIVATIZATION!
Have you seen what privatization of things like Public Electrical
Utilites has done??? Do you know of ANYONE who got lower elctrical
rates out of that??? I'm sure some fat-cat CEO got a tidy little bonus
for increasing the proitiblility of his company - but that in no way
transled to, or resulted from, lower electrical rates.
There are some things that should remain "Public" because the
government has a responsibility to the electorate to keep them safe in
the public trust. Once privatized, the private sector has NO
responsibiliy to the public whatsoever. And do not be fooled by a
contractual obligation either! Our contractors have those too. But the
government does NOT enforce them! Without enforcement, they mean
NOTHING. I wonder how much of a kick-back our government is getting to
look the other way??
I have seen it first hand. The politicians cannot hide the truth.
To my ameican cousins: Protect what is rightfully yours. Your
politicians will NOT do it - YOU have to. If you don't, no one else
will.
/rant off
