Cheney's Presence Is Not Wanted at Ground Zero
A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY
by Jack Ballinger
According to many pundits, the NYC problem highlighted in Sheryl McCarthy's
Newsday column ("Cheney's Presence Is Not Needed at Ground Zero" at [LINK]),
is driving the Republican's crazy. When they did the unthinkable, and chose
Liberal New York City for their National Convention next year, they did so
because they were sure that GW would still be wearing his "hero" robe which
would get him cheers all over this city.
Then New Yorkers started to smell the BS, and the Emperor's robes became
transparent. Now, Cheney can't even attend the 9/11 ceremony A FULL YEAR
before the convention, as they worry about his "security."
No, it ain't Osama that has them worried. It's the families of 9/11 victims
who have grown weary of being used as mere props for every elected official
who desires camera time. It's the cops, fireman, construction workers and
neighborhood residents who, to their surprise, recently learned that they
had been the only folks hit with "chemical weapons" in recent years, and
that their government lied to them and told them the poisoned air they
allowed themselves and their children to breath was really fine.
It's the average New Yorker who is tiring of watching as the main battle
being fought by the Bush administration appears to be the one against the US
Constitution and the Bill of Rights. (In a speech yesterday, Bush cited
"unreasonable obstacles" that he claims have impeded the search for terror
suspects here in the US. Those two revered documents, the US Constitution
and the Bill of Rights, are the obstacles he'd like to surmount.)
So, it turns out that in a twist worthy of Machiavelli, lacking a miracle in
the next year, the Republicans will be playing the Christians to our NYC
lions in a coliseum I'm proud to call home!
