Here comes that ole 'D' word |

Uh oh! Here comes the 'D' word
For the length of the Iraq war, President George W. Bush has claimed
reinstating the military draft was "not an option" and that a draft
"will not be considered."
List most claims by this most duplicitous of Presidents, things have
changed.
With no end of the war in sight and Bush's promise this week to stay
as long as it takes to establish a stable democratic government in
Iraq (which would be never), the military is running out of a few good
men...and women.
So now Bush's military adviser says a draft is worth considering.

Some kind of National Service should be a requirement of citizenship in
the USA. Perhaps tied to a college education (sort of a GI bill in
reverse).
There could be many forms of National Service (including, but not
limited to combat military) from which to choose. Service would involve
travel overseas and would broaden the next generations experience. Thus
ensuring that such a narrow minded approach to foreign policy and
foreign action as we have recently experienced would never be allowed to
take place again.
Call it a Draft, call it National Service, call it Peace Corps, call it
whatever you want... it would be good thing IMHO.

Never say never. All it could take is another false flag attack to get the
American sheeple behind the President and all of a sudden they need an
additional 300,000 troops to invade (pick your country).

Either this nation is worthy of survival or it isn't.
Lincoln called for 300,000 volunteers and he got them. If President G.
W. Bush called for 1,000,000 volunteers, he'd get them.
If not, who cares if this nation survives, anyway?

I agree. Republicans support the troops because it means they won't have
to fight in the war they say they support.

My best bet with regard to military service is that the USA will
increansingly depend upon mercenaries rather than native american men
to fill the military ranks, especially those involving combat.
Why? The current social, cultural, and politicl climate in the USA is
inimical to those males who might be subject to the military draft.
Affirmative action, feminism, the historical discrimination in
employment by the federal, state, and private sectors of veterans, and
other social culture norms in the USA are inimical to both the
development of a male citizenry willing and able to serve in the
military and of a culture willing to appropriately reward them for the
same.
The destruction of returning Vietnam veterans by the USA is still
looked upon without any guilt by our nation.
The high unemployment rate amongst current returning veterans is
ignored!
