bedroom, put an old .38-caliber revolver to his head and pulled
the trigger - twice. His body was found the next day. For weeks
after, Internet bloggers buzzed with the news of Webb's death. The

OPINION
_______
Editorial: Energy Non-Policy
Sure, it's cynical to attach an otherwise unpassable bill to the
federal budget resolution. In the case of permitting oil
exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, it's bad
budgeting as well. Worse, it marks a larger failure to create an
energy policy that would honestly lead to less dependence on
foreign oil.

Editorial: Congress' Big Stick
Federal marshals tagging baseball players with subpoenas wasn't
what we expected when big league baseball promised to return to
Washington after a 33-year absence. Nor was the prospect of
sluggers invoking the 5th Amendment as interrogators demand that
they testify about steroid use.

Andres Martinez: Truth Is, Bush's Propaganda Hurts the U.S.
Spin is nothing new in American politics, but the Bush
administration has not contented itself with trying to influence
the news. It's in the business of producing the news itself, in
the hopes of passing it off as generic, third-party reporting.
This is propaganda parading as journalism.
