soldiers today deserve amnesty
by John in DC

amnesty to terrorists who kill US soldiers in Iraq.
You can find their names below - the "nay" votes are the ones who
support amnesty for terrorists.

UPDATE: Here's the text of the amendment as submitted:
SEC. 1209. SENSE OF CONGRESS ON THE GRANTING OF AMNESTY TO PERSONS
KNOWN TO HAVE KILLED MEMBERS OF THE ARMED FORCES IN IRAQ.
(a) Findings.--Congress makes the following findings:
(1) The Armed Forces of the United States and coalition military
forces are serving heroically in Iraq to provide all the people of
Iraq a better future.
(2) The Armed Forces of the United States and coalition military
forces have served bravely in Iraq since the beginning of military
operations in March of 2003.
(3) More than 2,500 members of the Armed Forces of the United States
and members of coalition military forces have been killed and more
than 18,000 injured in operations to bring peace and stability to all
the people of Iraq.
(b) Sense of Congress.--It is the sense of Congress that--
(1) the Government of Iraq should not grant amnesty to persons known
to have attacked, killed, or wounded members of the Armed Forces of
the United States; and
(2) the President should immediately notify the Government of Iraq
that the Government of the United States strongly opposes granting
amnesty to persons who have attacked members of the Armed Forces of
the United States.
In all fairness to the Republicans, maybe they simply objected to the
fact that we called US service members "heroic."

AS is typical the leftists post only that which they want you to read.
What about the rest of the amendment. The part that they actually
were voting against.? Like setting a timetable to remove US troops
from Iraq THIS YEAR?
Ahh yes the libs would have us believe that they voted only against
articles a and b of a much longer amendment. Amendment 4320 submitted
by Carl Levin to be exact.
(1) the following actions need to be taken to help achieve the
broad-based and sustainable political settlement so essential for
defeating the insurgency and preventing all-out civil war--
(A) there must be a fair sharing of political power and economic
resources among all the Iraqi groups so as to invest them in the
formation of an Iraqi nation by either amendments to the Iraq
Constitution or by legislation or other means, within the timeframe
provided for in the Iraq Constitution;
(B) the President should convene an international conference so as to
more actively involve the international community and Iraq's
neighbors, promote a durable political settlement among Iraqis, reduce
regional interference in Iraq's internal affairs, encourage more
countries to contribute to Iraq's extensive needs, and ensure that
pledged funds are forthcoming;
(C) the Iraq Government should promptly and decisively disarm the
militias and remove those members of the Iraqi security forces whose
loyalty to the Iraq Government is in doubt; and
(D) the President should--
(i) expedite the transition of United States forces in Iraq to a
limited presence and mission of training Iraqi security forces,
providing logistic support of Iraqi security forces, protecting United
States infrastructure and personnel, and participating in targeted
counterterrorism activities;
(ii) after consultation with the Government of Iraq, begin the phased
redeployment of United States forces from Iraq this year; and
(iii) submit to Congress a plan by the end of 2006 with estimated
dates for the continued phased redeployment of United States forces
from Iraq, with the understanding that unexpected contingencies may
arise;
(2) during and after the phased redeployment of United States forces
from Iraq, the United States will need to sustain a nonmilitary effort
to actively support reconstruction, governance, and a durable
political solution in Iraq; and
(3) the President should carefully assess the impact that ongoing
United States military operations in Iraq are having on the capability
of the United States Government to conduct an effective
counterterrorism campaign to defeat the broader global terrorist
networks that threaten the United States.
I am surprised at none of the little games the left tries to play
anymore.

Sorry, it's a bad habit they picked up from the right. They taught us
that while Paul Wellstone voted for S.1216, which was $48 billion for
veterans, it is fair to attack him for one provision in the bill
(spending "thousands of dollars to control seaweed in Maui") without
mentioning the context of the vote (or that the GOP supported it, too).
Or have Cheney bash Kerry for voting to not fund certain weapons
systems, though to vote against the cut in funding would have meant
voting against the entire Defense budget (or noting that Cheney asked
for the cuts: "Congress has let me cancel a few programs. But you've
squabbled and sometimes bickered and horse-traded and ended up forcing
me to spend money on weapons that don't fill a vital need in these
times of tight budgets and new requirements. ... You've directed me to
buy more M-1s, F-14s, and F-16s-all great systems ... but we have
enough of them.")
Hey, it is an effective tactic, apparently, and can you really blame
anyone for co-opting the winning play book?

That's a tough call and I would not get on the case of these
Senators. I don't think they "voted []in favor of giving
amnesty to terrorists" so much as they did not want to force the
Iraqi government into an untenable position.
You can't on the one hand call this an illegal war, and on the
other insist that the invaders not be resisted and killed.
I can't speak for any of the troops on the ground in Iraq, but
every soldier I've ever met knows that death, injury, or capture
are the risks you assume when you put on the uniform.
