Last April 14, the Castro regime granted Julio=20
Antonio a conditional release until he fully recovers. =20
"We organized this Committee to help Julio Antonio,=20
for we could not allow a fellow brother, continue=20
being deprived of proper food and care due to lack=20
of money, while he is at a State hospital, far=20
away from his natal province and with no means of=20

who was also granted a conditional release from prison=20
due to his failing health on June 22.
The Committee was officially constituted on June 19,=20
by Soledad Rivas Verdec=EDa, wife of Roberto de Miranda=20
and their two children Marcos and Michael de Miranda=20
Rivas.
"All who have collaborated to date have done so on a=20
personal basis, most of whom are members and activists=20
of the Cuban Independent Teachers Union, Members of the=20
Liberal Party, Human Rights Coalition, and the Pro Human=20
Rights Movement February 24 made a commitment to collect=20

the Varela Project Julio Vald=E9s Guevara, was one of the=20
75 members of the Cuban Civil Society to be arrested on=20
March 19, 2003 during the regime's crackdown against=20
the Cuban Civil Society. On May of that same year he=20
was tried summarily in Cause 05/2003, and sentenced
to 20 years in prison, and was immediately transferred=20
to Canaleta where he began to serve his prison term.
Soon thereafter, his kidneys shut down and he was=20
transferred first to a hospital in Mor=F3n, Ciego de=20
=C1vila, then transferred in critical condition to=20
Clinics in the municipality of Arroyo Naranjo in=20
the Capital, then to the Julio Trigo Hospital and=20
Salvador Allende Hospital, respectively. =20
"After 240 days in different hospital facilities in=20
the country, Julio Antonio ended up in the Nephrology=20
Institute in Havana receiving dialysis every other day=20
in order to survive until such time that a compatible=20
kidney can be found for he needs a kidney transplant=20
