A question for the peanut gallery |
Let's say a republican Attorney General finds out that a Democratic Governor
has been circumventing merit promotion laws. The AG has made overtures
and started a exploritory committee to see if he can indeed run for
governor. The AG starts a grand jury investigation into the DEMOCRATIC
governor allegded crimes. Indictments come down, and the AG is speaking
more loudly about running for the indicted governor's office.
Should that republican Attorney General step aside and let a special council
run the investigation and prossucution, to prevent a conflict of intrest, OR
continuee the ivestigation and prossucution of the Democratic governor while
running for office.

YES OR NO!
it's okay for a AG to prosucute a case when he has SAID THAT HE WANTS THE
JOB OF THE MAN WHO HE IS PROSUCUTING!!! Why can't he appoint a special
prosucuter? Wouldn't that be acceptable (which it is under Ky law).
But to you *****, conflict of intrest is a problem when it could benifit the
republican.

Grand jury investigating governor's hiring to have term extended
FRANKFORT, Ky. --
A judge on Friday said he would extend the term of a special grand
jury that indicted Gov. Ernie Fletcher last week on misdemeanor
charges of illegal hiring practices.
On the day the grand jury's term was due to expire, Franklin County
Circuit Judge William Graham said he would allow the grand jury to
meet for another 90 days.

A AG should, but he should also avoid the apperance of conflict. A AG
who has said that he is going to run for governor in a year, is trying a
case against the man he is going to run against, shouldn't be prudent to
give the case over to a special council, so he could try the case?
The choice is simple, either prosucute the case or don't run for governor of
Kentucky, he (or you) can't have it both ways!
But I guess being a lib means you can have it any way you want!
