Here in Britain, just after 9/11, our Government strengthened the
existing anti-terror laws, already among the most Draconian in the free
world, as part of their war on terror. It wasn't necessary. We've
always got on well with the Arabs, there had never been any Arab
terrorist acts within Britain, and we had no reason to fear being
singled out by them. Similarly after 7/7 the Government adamantly
denied that our involvement in Iraq had anything to do with it. Instead
they maintain that there is an Islamic plot of "Global dimensions"
openly financed by Syria and Iran, secretly financed by other Islamic
governments, put into action by the hapless Palestinians and Hezbollah
etc and supported by millions of Muslims world wide, including
hundred's of thousands of British born sympathisers. Their goal
apparently is to take over the world and force Sharia Law upon us.
Believe it or not, that really is the Government line, which is
widely accepted by the Majority of the British public.
But that wouldn't make sense either because How on earth could 9/11
or any other terrorist act achieve an Islamic world? Especially when
you consider that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world
today. It is spreading like wildfire, quite spontaneously, without any
missionary effort. If anything Islamic terrorism would put potential
converts off and cause existing believers sincere doubts.
But you have to look at in perspective. As soon as New Labour came into
power in 1997 they began trying to bring in new laws that would allow
imprisonment without trial.
In fact days before 9/11 they had reached all party agreement to bring
in a law which would allow them to intern, in a place of safety for an
indefinite period, in a sort of half way house between a secure
hospital and a prison, people the Government believed posed a danger to
themselves or others and were beyond medical help. They said it was
persons suffering from severe personality disorders that they had in
mind but admitted that people who had never committed a crime or were
not mentally ill or considered to be a danger to the public ,could be
imprisoned under this act. It's is not surprising that it took 2
years to reach all party agreement.
I first heard about it in the spring of '99. I left the country in
that year and returned in September '01 a few days before 9/11 so I
can be sure that I heard the radio interview, where the Home Secretary
of the day, Jack Straw ,announced that he had gained all party consent
for the Bill, only days before 9/11. Because the point is that from the
9th of September 2001 they dropped the idea of this bill like a brick.
Why? Because 9/11 gave them the opportunity they were looking for. (
Google "Reichstag Fire" + 9/11) Why are they so desperate to
suspend our civil liberties? Because New Labour has had, from it's
beginnings, a radical Neo- con agenda which is totally unacceptable to
the British people. Consequently we still have, after ten years, a free
health service, free education, welfare, etc. They have made very
little progress in their eventual aim of abolishing income tax together
with drastic cuts in public spending. They have known from the start
that unless they could silence the opposition they were never going to
succeed with their radical agenda.
We all remember the fuss over the 2005 Prevention of Terrorism Act and
the 90 day clause. Well the stand by the Lords and the Opposition in
resisting 90 days was entirely insincere. This year the Lords and the
Opposition, with a wink and a nod, allowed the Government to bring in a
new bill, which has only to receive the Royal assent for it to become
law, which gives the Government all it was asking for under the 2005
terrorism bill and more besides.
The Legislative and Regulatory reform bill 2006 allows the Government
to amend any existing legislation in any way it wants. They can, if
they want to, create new innocent looking legislation and once it is
passed into law alter it in any way they feel. They can have their 90
days now or 290 days if they feel like it and it looks as if they do
feel like it. They can privatise the Health Service now, privatise
education , the sky's the limit. So that's that then. So send your
emails, blog away, the government no longer has to worry what you
think. The only thing left to us now is mass protest but they have
another trick up their sleeve for that one:- The Civil Contingency Act
2004. Both of these acts have separately been compared with Nazi
enabling act brought in in response to the Reichstag fire which allowed
Hitler to suspend parliament and rule by decree. Both these acts
combined give Tony Blair all the power any Dictator could want. I've
always said the only person he's handing over to is Ewan. Many a
