MY COMMENTS at the very end:
BEWARE THE 22ND OF AUGUST
IRANIAN MAD HATTERS MAY BE UP TO SOMETHING
August 11, 2006
Vox Populi
By Greg Strange
I don't want to alarm anyone unnecessarily, but there's something
everyone might need to know about the fast approaching date of August
22, 2006. That, by the way, is the date on which madcap Iranian
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he would give Iran's final answer
about its nuclear development program.
I think we can all be fairly certain that the answer isn't going to be
anything along the lines of, 'Okay, we thought about it long and hard
and we've decided that, hey, the West is right after all. We got no
business monkeying around with nuclear technology.'
But what's so potentially alarming about that specific date? Well, it's
a funny thing, if by 'funny,' one means apocalyptically deranged. It
seems that August 22 has great Islamic significance, particularly this
year. But I'll defer to the explanation by Bernard Lewis, renowned
Middle Eastern and Islamic scholar, and professor emeritus at
Princeton. The following is taken from a column he wrote that appeared
recently in the Wall Street Journal.
'This year, Aug. 22 corresponds, in the Islamic Calendar, to the 27th
day of the month of Rajab of the year 1427. This, by tradition, is the
night when many Muslims commemorate the night flight of the prophet
Muhammad on the winged horse Buraq, first to 'the farthest mosque,'
usually identified with Jerusalem, and then to heaven and back (c.f.,
Koran XVII.1). This might well be deemed an appropriate date for the
apocalyptic ending of Israel and if necessary of the world. It is far
from certain that Mr. Ahmadinejad plans any such cataclysmic events
precisely for Aug. 22. But it would be wise to bear the possibility in
mind.'
Now, most normal, rational people will react to all this by saying
something like, 'But that's just crazy!' Well, yes, of course it is,
but despite what Mike Wallace would have you believe after having
interviewed and become enamored with Ahmadinejad, so are the people
controlling Iran. Lewis provided another example in his column of why
it might be prudent to take their craziness seriously.
It's a quote found in Iranian schoolbooks that was made by the
Ayatollah Khomeini. Remember him? Yeah, he was that humorless,
stern-looking, bearded guy in charge over there. Which humorless,
stern-looking, bearded guy in charge? The one who pulled off the 1979
Iranian Revolution and later slapped a fatwa on Salman Rushdie's head
because of his novel, The Satanic Verses.'
Anyway, the quote goes like this: 'I am decisively announcing to the
whole world that if the world-devourers [i.e., the infidel powers] wish
to stand against our religion, we will stand against their whole world
and will not cease until the annihilation of all them. Either we all
become free, or we will go to the greater freedom which is martyrdom.
Either we shake one another's hands in joy at the victory of Islam in
the world, or all of us will turn to eternal life and martyrdom. In
both cases, victory and success are ours.'
It's what you call a win-win situation, at least in the mind of your
average Iranian ayatollah. Either we, the infidels, all end up dead and
the Islamic loonies get to rule the world, or they, the Islamic
loonies, all get martyred and go straight to heaven. I know which
scenario I'm hoping for.
The problem for Israel Qand perhaps for all the West Qis that there is
no apparent way to deter people whose actions may be guided by such
lunacy. Even though it's a lead pipe cinch that if Iran were to pull
some kind of cataclysmic attack against Israel, Iran would be destroyed
in the retaliatory response, that prospect may not be enough to deter
the lunatics in power in Iran.
So, should we expect something that radical to happen on the 27th day
of the month of Rajab of the year 1427 er, I mean, August 22, 2006? I
don't know, but I've mentally marked the date on my calendar and I'm
not making any special plans for that particular Tuesday.

COMMENTS BY JAY J. OF SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA:
Well, I just came to be aware of this possibility about a month ago
have been trying to tell as many people about it as I can. Oddly
enough, even though Bernard Lewis wrote what he did and even though
this article has not only been published in the Wall Street Journal,
but in most major newspapers,
I actually read about this in a Syrian paper quoting a former Syrian
Cabinet member who said the same thing BEFORE Bernard Lewis said
anything of this sort. Now just by reading the article by Bernard Lewis
and seeing it receive as much attantion as it has in the newspapers, I
would naturally become real concerned about this, after my first
reaction, of course, of "Yeah right.....".
But because I know that this was originally reported by a former Syrian
Cabinet member who obviously would have a more accurate impression of
the mind and intentions of the Iranian President, I am absolutely
freaked out by it now. Before any of this was reported, I
mean like months ago, I had asked myself when I heard that the Iranians
were announcing a date of August 22nd to respond to the incentives
package offered by Europe for the cessation of Iranian Uranian
enrichment, "Why the 22nd of August?
It's not even a significant day of the week like a Friday, Saturday or
Sunday....it's a Tuesday!!! What's the big deal about the 22nd? Is it
exactly a certain round amount of days till the 22nd of August from
when this was announced? No....I couldn't understand why they picked
such a seemingly random insignificant day. Well, I guess we all
understand now why it has to be the 22nd of August for them.......
The Iranian President has been bent on ushering in the 12th Imam for
some time now and this would be the most appropriate day to do it. Read
my blog post regarding this particular subject: Iran President Paves
the Way for Arabs' Imam Return
The Islamic Tradition also has it that Mohammed was taken to Jerusalem
to the temple and them up to heaven to meet with the other prophets and
there was a "Great Light" seen over the skies of Jerusalem. And in
order for the 12th Imam to return, the same thing must happen in
regards to the light.
The President of Iran has claimed to his people that this light would
be far more spectacular than the days of
Mohammed. The only logical way that this could happen is if Iran
attacks Israel with a Nuclear Warhead. The only problem is that he
would also be destroying the Dome of the Rock, which is the 3rd holiest
site of Islam. So, that's out of the picture.
But what would work, would be a High-Altitude Nuclear Detonation. When
a nuclear devise is detonated in the atmosphere, there is no physical
destruction, but it does create is an EMP (Electro Magnet Pulse). What
this does is make inoperable all electronic and mechanic devises.
Everything between cars, TVs, radios, aircraft....everything. Israel
would become
instantly defensly as their military would also be effected by the EMP
and would be inoperable. They would be defenseless.....completely
defensless. Once the Islamic world got wind of this, Israel can expect
a full invasion by every muslim in the world, whether sactioned by
legitimate governments. Some many governments, in fact, would be likely
to "officially" particpate in this "wiping Israel off the map". Does
that statement sound familiar? It should as it was also the world of
the Iranian President. And in context of the senario I am portraying,
it takes on much more meaning and relevancy. How about this statement
from the Iranian President: "Israel has pushed the button of its own
destruction.." Does this also sound familiar. There are only a few
weapons in the world that requires an actual "button" being pushed to
activate, one of which is an ICBM....and the "destruction" part of the
last statement means that this ICBM has a nuclear warhead attached to
it.
Iran does know that if they go through with this that it would mean the
annhilation of Iran. But we must also remember that the Iranian
President is an Islamic Extremist. Islamic Extremists believe in
volunteering to be suicide bombers. Well......now we are dealing with a
suicide-bomber on a national scale. Could there be anything more
terrifying.....
----------------------------------------------------------------------
HERE ARE MY COMMENTS:
Whether something will happen on August 22 remains to be seen. I have a
tendency to believe that Ahmadinejad will simply give a major speech
that day explaining why Iran will go on with its nuclear program. I
also think that it will take another couple of years before Iran could
develop a practical nuclear delivery integrated with its missile
programs.
At this moment, Iran possesses quite a number of long-range missiles
that could easily (with fair accuracy) reach Israel, even without
nuclear attachments.
There is no doubt that Ahmadinejad is a fanatic, so no one really knows
what he will actually do. Anything is possible.
Ahmadinejad is potentially the most dangerous leader we have ever
faced, as Steve Schippet of threatswatch.org says:
"After his election, Ahmadinejad met in Tehran with Hassan Nassrallah,
the leader of Iranian-supported Hizbollah. Ahmadinejad praised
Hizbollah as a "symbol of pure thought of Islam..............It is said
that, as a mayor of Tehran, he had city plans drawn up for the return
of the 12th Imam. At his address to the United Nations General Assembly
in October, he indeed ended his speech with a prayer imploring God to
hasten the return of the 12th Imam for the good of humanity...".
Here is the ending of that speech: "From the beginning of time,
humanity has longed for the day when justice, peace, equality and
compassion envelop the world. All of us can contribute to the
establishment of such a world. When that day comes, the ultimate
promise of all Divine religions will be fulfilled with the emergence of
a perfect human being (the 12th Imam) who is heir to all prophets and
pious men. He will lead the world to justice and absolute peace. O
mighty Lord, I pray to you to hasten the emergence of your last
repository, the promised one, that perfect and pure human being, the
one that will fill this world with justice and peace".
Steve Schippert continues on to say: "For foreign policy and national
security analysts, discerning the potential impact of this
fundamentalist beliefs is crucial. From the information available, it
points to a troubling predicament of a purist fundamentalism
potentially even more radical and dangerous that that of Al-Qaeda,
which seeks to establish a global Islamist Caliphate. Ahmadinejad
appears to go one step further than the Sunni Al-Qaeda and possibly to
seek to usher in the 'second coming' of the hidden 12th Imam, the
Mahdi".
In any case, we have a MADMAN in Ahmadinejad.
It's a scary thought!!
