Today's afternoon breaking news is that the Michigan Civil Rights
Initiative, the petition drive to end state government use of race and
gender preferences (what opponents like to fuzzily and warmly refer to
as "affirmative action"), has finally been ordered onto the Michigan
ballot for 2006. Last week the Michigan Board of Canvassers' deadlocked
following threats and physical violence by a group calling itself "By
Any Means Necessary," despite a Court of Appeals order requiring them
to place it on the ballot. Regardless of one's views on the issue,
failure to follow procedural rights related to the right to vote is a
universally condemnable act.
I provide original news and source material through my research
service, and this is a primary topic of its interest.
